Yes, I agree. You 'could' watch less exciting fighters than Whitaker. But that isn't exactly an endorsement.
I thought title fights were big fights? Watch the Santos Cardona title fight, the Baby Jones title fight, the Pendleton title fight, the Brazier fight, the Paez title fight ... all completely overmatched opponents and the question you posed will answer itself. Most of those fights had to be paired with a bout considered a more exciting co-main event because HBO knew the Whitaker fight was going to bore the pants off everyone. The ones that weren't paired with an exciting co-main event are largley forgotten because nobody did watch them.
Well, there are fights involving Whitaker that I would happily watch again because I enjoyed them. And that is an endorsement.
I've watched the Pendleton fight and think it's a good one. I don't see how that could be conceived of as boring at all.
Because people don't like perfection because it scares them. They have to find SOMETHING wrong. Pea also EASILY outclassed Azumha. He beat the crap out of Chavez and I thought he beat or deserved a draw in the least with Oscar in a bout he was already in decline. Michael Nunn coming up couldn't be touched- think Heorl Graham but more talented. He changed his style BEFORE Toney. And it cost him. Funny thing is he was beating the crap out of Toney. All this garbage about Toney coming on is pure BS. Nunn got tired and sloppy that's how he got stopped. Watch the first 5 rounds. He was EASILY beating Toney.
