If I remember rightly Oscar still wanted about 60-70% of the purse, money saw it break down anyway

This fight was penciled in for September, 2008. The fight was all but signed.
Mayweather was set to receive $20plus million for the rematch. He retired in June, 2008, thus cancelling the bout. He said he retired because he had lost the desire to continue fighting and his joy of boxing.

His retirement forced De La Hoya to look for another hi-profile opponent, which led him to pursue a fight with Manny Pacquiao. That was the fight which launched PacMan into the stratoshpere and on to fights with Hatton and Cotto and Fighter Of The Decade honors.

You think Mayweather regrets cancelling the rematch with De La Hoya? :yep

First of all, the fans did not want to see it. And then De la hoya looked like crap against Steve forbes. There was no point for Mayweather to go that high up in weight again, cause he didnt feel comfortable at 154, and if De la Hoya was going down to 147 Floyd would have killed him (watch the Pacquiao fight, De la hoya looked like a dead man)

SAME as Tito's rematch, Oscar wanted the bigger purse after a loss on his rec.

    :deal

When news of a rematch broke on here people were going crazy at Floyd for apparently fighting an old man who he already beat and screwing the public out of their mony.

He didn't need the money...he was on top of the sport and his stock was at an all time high. Doing things like the WWE....comercials, dancing with the stars. Floyd wanted to do something else instead of boxing. Boxing to Floyd wasn't something he's stated that he LOVED...he LOVED the $$$ that Boxing allowed him to make.....but he was making good money outside of it.

Now from reports.....Floyd HAD to come back due to getting involved with a shady business man who took Floyd for pretty much everything he had banked away.

At least that time egos didn't prevent a fight that would be sorely missed.

Yup, Oscar wanted a 70/30 split like the first fight. Floyd felt he deserved a 50/50 split after his good PPV numbers against Hatton coupled with his new found fame from appearing on dancing with the stars and WWE.
