look, its not difficult... was maxim trying to last the distance ? yes. did robinson fail to last the distance ? yes in boxing youre not even in the running to win if you cannot go the distance or at least outlast your opponent. thats where maxim was the better man
that would be a likely answer, if not not for the fact that in that he never came on late in the fight he punch out put was extremely low.
I'm not absolutely sure that that was an actual plan of his, but if i was in Maxim's corner that night, I would have noted that when referee Ruby Goldstein collapsed in the ring that it was fairly evident that the same could have happened with one of the gloved participants..and the one who put out more, who exerted himself more would be the likely candidate. Maxim was a conservative, negative type of guy even in victory, so maybe in employing an ultra passive strategy, and letting the other guy burn himself out, his corner played a "tortoise and hare" sort of plan...it's a thought anyway.
