I put Australia, South Africa and New Zealand in the same category to answer this question. Every strong and tough young boy in these countries want to be a Rugby star. Its a no brainer actually. And as for people insulting rugby or cricket, I have to say that the Americans are the real pussies here. Use mitts in baseball and padding on their favourite contact sport which is off course american football. They also have the slower paced game because of all the downs.

When Fenech was making real effort as a trainer, Australia had a good crop of up and coming talent. Lots of guys who were world class, and put on some credible performances. While Kostya was active, there was also guys like Briggs, Darchinyan, Green, Mundine, Sam Soliman, Nader Hamdan, the Hussein brothers. (Obviously not all affiliated with Fenech)

But after Johnny Lewis stopped training, and after Fenech lost momentum, there were no decent trainers to speak of.

It's a cultural thing too. I live in Adelaide, population of about one million. There are literally hundreds of martial arts schools. I think there might be 2 or 3 boxing gyms.

It's a sports mad country with no interest in boxing, Aussie rules and rugby are the sports of choice for every young male.

boxing isn't a big sport here. Katsidis barely makes the sports news and he is one of our best fighters.

Small population, extremely niche sport, poor trainers etc. Considering that they do alright relatively speaking.

It's pretty simple. Rugby League, Footy and Cricket pay WAAAAAY more.

Or maybe it's because we have a population of 22.5 million, you stupid ****, compared to the UK (62 million) and the US (311 million) When you take that into account we aren't doing too bad. Do some research before you make yourself look even dumber than you already have.
