Why do Bunce, Boxing New and Boxing Monthly continue to defend Haye

maybe thats why hes dissapeared to Miami

But your right - Im kinda bored of Haye now as are a lot of others and considering the size of his ego - that might bother him more than people hating him!

 

Buncey is paid to promote the sport, not paint the biggest money makers in Britain in a bad light. If he came on and called out the nonsense in all British boxing, he wouldn't get hired again. That's the way it is, I used to get pissed off about it but you have to see where he is coming from. Buncey knows deep down Haye is a joke but it's not in his interests to call him out on the conniving **** that he is.

 

First of all, Haye sells out the o2 in a heartbeat. He still has a large enough fan base to do that!

Second, and I will defend Buncey here, everyone wants to see Haye fight a Klit FACT! Bunce had said before it's the fight that he, and the fans, want to see most. Adam smith keeps reiterating in interviews 'will we see a Klit fight'. There is not a boxing fan, journo or sports channel on earth than wants him to fight a Fast Eddie or a shot to **** Chagaev. But this is what we are left with!!!! Haye and Booth couldn't agree to a fight with either Brother for whatever reason, and so team haye moved on. Are we pissed? Of course. Fans, journalists and Sky are pissed! We as boxing fans want to see the big fights, but they don't always happen because of bull**** reasons. Journos want to report it as it's money making, and sky want to rip the arse out of it for all it's worth. But the sad fact is, we are left with Haye fighting either Chag or Teddy Atlas' boy. EVERYONE is pissed. But we can't change it if terms can't be agreed!

 

I can give you perspective from the view of casual fans of the sport, three of whom I live with and who (imo) would follow the sport far more closely if it provided consistent quality match ups.

For two of them the heavyweight division is the only one which they would make an effort to watch. They were happy to see Haye win the Valuev fight even though they didn't find the fight exciting (who did?). The Ruiz fight was enjoyable enough for everyone although one sided. With regard to Harrison; they were interested purely because they knew who he was but following what happened they see that the match up was a joke. They thought that it was more of a comedy than an exciting KO. Now they are all saying that he has to fight a Klitschko and this is without real input from me.

I really think that the facade has slipped somewhat and he isn't going to maintain interest from the public without making a fight with Wladimir or Vitali. Lets face it he's dicked on everyone (bar perhaps Valuev) in his heavyweight career. His power has kept people interested but people want to see a competitive fight now. He will lose long term credibility with even casual fans if he retires without a Klitschko fight, they're still aware of 'unification' fights from the Lewis days. Nobody is under any illusions that he is fighting competitvely at the moment, even those who rarely watch the sport. Not to provide a Klitschko bout would severely damage the sport amongst casual observers imo.

 

Spot on. When Haye vs Harrison was announced my girlfriend text me saying "Audley Harrison lol". After the fight her dad rang me and said he wouldbt buy a boxing PPV again. I said evev for Klitscko and he said no chance.

Would your mates pay £15 to watch Haye vs Chagaev or anyone other than a Klitsko on PPV or go to the pub that saturday night?? Even if Froch and possobally Groves vs DeGale is thrown in.

To sell 22,000 tickets you need to get the casual fan. A large number of the fans at the MEN were not hardcore boxing fans but casuals. 22,000 at the 02 is a hard sell without a name when your coming of a sham fight. Your under estimatinv the damaging effect of the harrison farce if you think it 100% sells out.

The funny thing is what does Haye do if he only 3/4 fills the 02 and get 200,000 ppv buys. How will he got to Klitscko and get 50-50 when thetr german TV money is worth more than that and there gettinf 60K in an arena

 

I think these non-Klitscho defences will get harder to to sell as time goes by,esp. if the previous fights have been a poor spectacle but I don't think we're at the point yet. People have short memories, I don't think the Harrsion fight will be a factor, they'll market the O2 fight as Hayes "homecoming, it'll do fine at the gate and on PPV.

 

My dad bought the Khan Prescott PPV without my knowledge (hadn't even spoken about the fight with him) and watched it without me. Hasn't bought one since. Would my friends go in with me for that line up? One would, the other two almost certainly would not, even though it's a very very good card. Neither Groves or Froch have any profile with them. In the case of Froch this is such a shame (as has been said many times before), watched him fight Pascal with casuals and they really enjoyed it.

To be honest, Chagaev is a relatively credible opponent (although I think he'd be an easyish fight for Haye) as is Povetkin, who's been on Haye's radar for a while now. If he fought one of those two then a K brother there would be no problem but it's this retirement talk that's getting everyone's knickers in a twist. I'm wondering how serious this is? Maybe Buncey could shed a bit of light on it.

 

I've given up on Haye as a fighter, not that bothered by the will he/wont he fight a Klitschko crap, its gone past the stage of building the fight up. I honestly dont care if it doesnt happen.

He will however be a tremendous addition to the Sky punditry team.

 

I got one mate who would never watch boxing on Sky Sports but gets every sky box offices. He is a sucker for advertising though, hes still got crates of sunny delight.

At first i thought it was a negotiation ploy but now it could be genuine as he is minted.

Genuinley think the Klits will wait until after october to try and make the fight. They can make £10mil from easy fights and a Haye fight only damages there legacy. Most think Haye is **** so if hes competative they will say "if haye almoat beat them imagine what tyson/ali/foreman would have done"

Who would Haye fight later in thr year? Arreola in the US??

Arreola is most likely followed by Adamek and then Eddie Chambers in order of probability I reckon.

 

I know that you know how this feels but there's no need to feel sorry for me, just read my original post hermit boy and things might become clearer.

 

I don't know and I don't care tbh. Haye wants the fight in september vs wlad. I'm assuming wlad will take it, beat haye and then haye retires as a guy who fought the best even if he lost. We're fickle fans like that. If he fought and beat both brothers we'd all be singing his praises and forget anything that happened before.

It's boxing politics. Depends which side of the fence you're on. Both haye and wlad are at fault for this so it's down to the individual who you choose to blame. Should haye have fought audley? No. Should wlad fight chisora? No.

The biggest issue with haye is the timeframe due to retirement. If he put that off to ensure the big fights happened noone would mind.

I'd much prefer if froch got this much attention.
