Why do lower weight class fighters get so damn fat after retirement?

Same as why lots of ex service people get fat. They continue eating the same amount as when they trained. but the body is no longer burning it off because they no longer train anywhere near the intensity they did and those calories they're still eating just pile on

I did 5 years in the Australian Navy, when I joined I was 18 and 67kg, when I left I was 23 and 87kg. Thankfully mostly muscle. Now I'm still 23 and 83kg. Most my buds have gained weight when they got out tho.

But like, Michael phelps (I think that's the right guy) ate like 10k+ calories a day when training for the olympics, imagine doing that without that training behind you lol

I used to compete at 154 then at 160 then at 168. When I stopped training seriously I did not stop eating the same way as I used to. I went from 170 walking weight to 240 walking weight in 2 years flat.

That's without beer or junk food. Clean food, just lots of it. And little to no activity.

I am 210 now thankfully but I know that all it takes is 6 months and me sitting on my ass and I will compete with fat dan.

When I exercise I get more hungry afterwards. Especially after doing cardio I get hungry. For some reason weight training doesn't get me as hungry. But I digress.

It makes sense to be hungry after training. How were you still hungry enough to eat food like you were training? A less active lifestyle means you're burning less calories so you would think that your body wouldn't be as hungry.

Beer will do it though. There is nothing more fat inducing than beer drinking. Even in moderation beer can screw you up. All my friends from college are getting fat now. We're all in our mid 20s now and a lot of these guys have not cut down on their beer drinking. And the metabolism is going "**** it, time to get fat now". Beer slows down your metabolism. It lowers testosterone, it increases estrogen. And then even after just consuming 5 beers the night before you're body needs like 2-3 days to feel right again to start training properly.

I wasn't a big eater originally so I literally conditioned myself to eat every 4 hours, or else I felt dizy. I trained for 8 years and conditioning like that never goes away. Now I am more cautious and only eat big meals the days I work out, so 4-5 times a week. Other times I just have smaller low carb portions. I am just naturally predisposed to gain weight, muscle and fat.

I'm the opposite. Could have something to do with me being 24 years old and the metabolism is still in overdrive.

But if I don't force myself to eat lots of nutritious food and workout then I get really frail and weak.

Yikes. Looks like he would have trouble making 196, let alone 126 where he used to fight.

Because they're short so the weight is more apparent.
