Why do people highly rate Duran's win over Leonard?

Despite PimpC's protestations, Duran was a Lightweight for years and had recently moved up two weight classes to face the best welter since SRR and one of the greatest Welters ever.

Ray might have fought a different fight, but Duran's style and tactics took him out of his game, something great boxers often do.

If Duran had retired after that fight, (as well he could have, given his career till then) Leonard would be much less highly regarded.

In the rematch, which came sooner than the overweight Duran's camp wanted, Duran had to seriously struggle to make weight. He was taking medications (diuretics) the week of the fight. There are many question-marks over the second fight.

It was a big disgrace for Duran to quit the way he did, one of the worst quittages in history by a top boxer, but there were reasons, not the least of which Duran had more need to be parked on a shitter than fighting in a ring.

Simply put, the best version of both were present in 1.

That was not the case in 2.

Montreal was the more telling bout.

That's a comment you might expect from one who gets most of his boxing impressions from Boxrec.

From 1972 to 1979 how many fights did Duran have??? And of those fights How many were lightweight fights?? And you say that Im a idiot, but your the one that dont know the history of the game...the answer is he had 45 fights only 12 of those fights were as a lightweight 10 were as a welterweight 1 as a jr middleweight, the rest as a jr welterweight. His last fight as a lightweight was in 1978 vs DeJesus he fought Ray in 1980..Between his fight with Dejesus and Ray he had 8 fights all 8 fights were welterweight or above.

Now that is the truth...Maybe you should buy a book or two or maybe some tapes of fights before you start calling people idiots:good
