Why do people say Tyson was visibly out of shape against Douglas?

I don't know that I've ever believed in the theory that having lots of *** before a major sporting event effected performance. Now going out until 3 AM in the morning, snorting cocaine, drinking booze AND sleeping with hookers all within days to the event could certainly have an impact. But getting your nob polished while resting in your hotel room a few hours before a fight shouldn't mean the difference between victory and defeat. In fact I would think it would result in the former.

I didn't know they did .He certainly wasn't focused on the fight though.Weights don't tell the whole story do they? It's well known Max Baer did negligible training for Braddock yet his weight was bang on.

I woul say from the way he fought.

But yes that aside, he was mentally out of shape (ie invisibly).

If Tyson does not fit your definition, then name some "on top" fighters.

Better yet, why don't you name some! Maybe post Rooney there was a fighter who cut corners in training, but then against Ruddock that certain fighter was able to turn the ride when in trouble. In other words Tyson was certainly capable of back and forth warfare and didn't fold every time he couldn't KO his opponent early.

Very true. Very few HW s in history could deal with Douglas that night. On fire.

Credit must be given to douglas, he came into the fight determined to take the fight to Tyson from the go ahead, not scared of dying literally, very smart fight
