Holmes hit harder than Ali? Based on what? The fact that a prime Holmes stopped the ghost of Shavers and the shell of Ali couldn't do that to a prime Shavers. That logic is so flawed I don't even bother correcting it anymore.
Norton, Berbick, and Shavers all said Ali hit harder than Holmes.

I don't think there was much separating the two power-wise. Holmes and Ali are in the same class for me- they may not have been the hardest punchers, but they hit hard enough.

I don't know if one hit harder in general so to speak, but I do think that uppercut of Holmes was likely more devastating than any punch Muhammad had.

I think that a lot of what Ali did in terms of stopping people was down to speed, so Holmes likely must have had a bit more power to offset that.

I don't know. Is it more devastating than Ali's straight right or his left hook? The left hook Ali landed in the 15th on Bonavena for example was pretty powerful stuff. But there probably isn't much in it. I will say Holmes sat down on his punches more than Ali did.

Ali also had a higher knock out percentage than Holmes.

Somehow all credibility disappeared when you quoted Berbick saying that Ali was a harder hitter than Holmes. The is the same TOTALLY SHOT 1981 Ali that Berbick is talking about?? He's saying that version of Ali hit harder than the prime Holmes??

Sorry but if you really believe that and are using that as proof to back up your argument then its hard to take anything you post on this particular debate seriously.

Holmes always seemed to put more weight in into his punches. Probably because he moved less. I just think Holmes hit with "bad intentions" more. Ali rarely seemed like he went out with the idea of stopping his guy, especially in the 70's. He'd beat them but was content to go the distance even when he could've got a KO. There's not much difference to me though.

being totally shot doesn't necessarily take away your punching power. There is a reason they say "punching power is the last thing to go" you know?

I think they are pretty even in the power stakes. Neither was a true puncher but both could get a fighter's attention with a punch. Both could get everything right once in a while and turn a fight around with one shot; Ali against Lyle and Bonavena, Holmes against Weaver for example.

Both were accumulation type punchers for the most part.

Yes, punching power is the last thing to go if you are a natural KO artist like a Tyson or a Foreman but c'mon Ali had long stopped showing signs of notable punching power long before he made his ill advised 1980 comeback.

You are not telling me you truly believe that, THAT Ali that fought Berbick hit harded than the prime Holmes?

Holmes also benefited from better ringside microphones. Lol! You do head his punches more at times.

Yes because I'd take your word over than someone who's been in the ring with both.

I'm not asking you to take my word. I'm just asking you the question, do you truly believe that, that Ali hit harder than the prime Holmes?

I don't, regardless of whether Berbick said it or not. I don't think you do really either but you're just been stubborn here.

neither one was a big puncher both depended on accuracy behind the Jab, Ali was more versatile. Larry had the harder jab,Ali the faster hands and feet both had decent power in the right hand but Ali had the better hook

Who proved there power against the better fighters? Ali
