Getting smoked and getting outboxed are two different things. Williams outboxed Margarito but he didn't smoke him. If they had a rematch I would pick Margarito because now he is a faster starter.
Williams looked pretty mobile when he fought Margo to me. He's also much longer than Cotto, and a lot more equipped to keep Margo off of him.
Cotto is smaller than Williams so he was able to slip away from him not hold him like what Williams did. Williams is their to be hit. IMO Cotto is more mobile. Yes, I still favor Margarito in the rematch.
Williams-Marg was a close fight, Williams doesnt show a great jab imo (apart from the Quintana rematch, when he had a bit of snap in it). He got credit for so many punches he missed against Margarito, Marg was parrying plenty of them and Marg doesnt have a very good defence. My biggest criticism of Williams has always been that his punches are not sharp/accurate enough, well that cant be 100% for a whole fight, but it is true over the long-haul of a grueling 1, especially of his jab in some of his recent fights. It was the reason Quintana was able to counter so many in their first bout and why his head movement was so effective.
How come Margo never went after the rematch? I know Paul was down, and has said that he wanted to fight the winner of Cotto/Margo. After the fight, Margo and his team have talked about him fighting, Hoya, Juda, Mosley, and Cotto again. Strangely, no mention of Paul Williams.
"Easy" is not the right word, but clearly is...Margarito hurt Paul more then Paul hurt Margarito but he simply clearly won more rounds.Antonio did not score any round by 10-8 despite his overwhelming dominance in the later rounds so it's a clear UD for Williams.
I HAD THE FIGHT 7-5 FOR MARGO a lot of those shot were blocked by margo...and if you ask me, he landed the quality shots down the stretch...
Fair enough, I haven't seen the whole fight yet. However, most accounts had Cotto winning pretty much all of the early rounds.
Williams easily won 5 ouf of the first 6 rounds(I thought he won all 6), as well as the 12th. Do you remember what 7 rounds you scored for Margo?
