Why does HBO continue to shove Ortiz down our throats?

This is a come back/get your confidence back type of fight.
Although he KOd the dude, he showed lapses in his defense, the same lapses actually that he had during the Maidana fight, which if he does not address will most likely result in a brutal loss to someone with punching power and raw aggression...A slick fighter who can hurt him will also be a problem.

I will reserve judgment on him until he steps up given that this is a much needed confidence booster fight. But I am expecting his team to put him up against a fighter who has a fair chance of winning in his next fight

 

I don't hold the quitting thing against him, but he appears to have problems seeing incoming punches, and guys like that tend not to last very long. Basically, he gets hit by shots he doesn't see that most fighters would see, even if they got hit by them.

Jaidon Codrington was that way and so is Jermain Taylor to an extent. Just the way it goes.

But Ortiz is a very good offensive fighter. I didn't like his body language in the pre-fight interview, but maybe he'll have more confidence now.

 

The shine has come off Ortiz some. He's promoted by Golden Boy so we will probably keep seeing him until someone beats him again. If matched well I don't mind seeing him at all. Put him in with Khan, Diaz, Urango, or a Maidana rematch and I think we get a very good fight. Good offensively but not so much defensively, I think he'll make for a few more good fights and pop in and out of contender status but he won't be a top guy at his weight let alone an elite fighter like he was once envisioned.

 

I never understand posts like this? ...The amount of talentless fighters we're often subjected to on undercards...and your moaning about having to watch Victor Ortiz? ...Lordy, lordy.

I'm trying to stay objective about Ortiz, because handled right, I think he can make some barnburners at 140. He's in desperate need now of two things, a defense oriented trainer, and a better ring identity. The physical talent is there, but that habit of running in with his chin up and pulling out with his right down is going to get him into hot water with anyone at 140 who can punch.

I think he should fight someone like Ngoudjo next, then either Malinaggi or Holt. Even Casa would be a decent opponent if he decides to stay at 140, it wouldn't be any worse than Khan fighting Barrera.

Agree. A young Fernando was the truth and would die before quitting. Not that Vic has to die to prove a point but Vargas had more heart.

Golden Boy.

Ortiz is a Glass Jawed disgrace and quitter. But since he is with Golden Boy he will continue to get fights on HBO while more deserving fighters do not.

The myth of Ortiz being must-see TV has pretty much been dispelled by now (Maidana was a good fight, but thanks largely to Maidana himself). Sooner or later they'll take the hint and heed the fans if he doesn't start to earn his airtime.

Anyway, Ortiz is a great young prospect. I really like him. **** that **** who said he deserves to die...thats just...ridiculous. Ortiz will go far in boxing. He just needed a little more experiance to beat Maidana but he'll get there. He was handled with a bit too much care and it backfired.

Still, the kid is good and thrilling to watch. Let's hope he goes far.
