Why has Manny experienced such a sharp physical decline, post 2009/10?

Even if Pac was taking PEDs, why would he suddenly stop when Floyd said something? It's not like he's now having extra testing that wasn't happening before. I think he just got old, you can't maintain that pace and that power forever, one or both will go eventually.

His style is predicated on athleticism, which naturally declines anyway with age, but it was probably accelerated by the fact he hasn't been a clean-living, disciplined guy outside the ring (as opposed to somebody like Hopkins) and the fact that he's been fighting since he was an underfed 16 year old and taken plenty of punishment in the ring for a decade and a half now. He has a young man's style and is a much older man now.

I mean, he doesn't even fight as a wild brawler (up until 2007 or so) or an aggressive boxer-puncher (2008 onward) anymore. Against Bradley, it seemed like Manny was trying to be a come-forward counterpuncher of sorts, waiting for Bradley to lead so he could then explode with his big punches and combinations on an open opponent. He was tooling Bradley with that conservative approach, ironically enough, as long as Bradley came forward and actually committed to his punches and tried to win the fight. Once he tasted Pacquiao's power, though, he got scared, started moving away, and stopped committing to any of his punches, just throwing those flicker jabs and soft slapping hooks while backpedaling. That cut down Manny's chances to counter him, both because Bradley was moving backward and because he wasn't committing to any of his punches, but Manny still landed the harder, cleaner, more numerous shots in the fight. But there's no doubt to me that if Pacquiao were still in his mid-late 20s, he would have poleaxed Bradley. He just doesn't have the legs or stamina he once did, hence the more conservative style.

I actually think Pacquiao tried to do this against Marquez in their third fight, too, but could not since Marquez was not going to take the lead and attack first against him (and is far more skilled than Bradley anyway; Marquez is more than capable of landing big, clean, hard punches while moving away or to the side, something Bradley couldn't/can't do), forcing Pacquiao to be the active aggressor. However, given that his physical gifts have declined, he wasn't able to do that as well as he was once able to.

Because he knows he's gonna have to stop using them when the Mayweather fight eventually happens.
That's why he has been cycling off the PEDs slowly to get used to training and fighting without them

He look bad against margo too imo. Everyone declines as age increase, its a natural fact. Not to take credit away from his opponents but his opponents were also guys on the decline(marg, mosley, marquez) - same age group as him except for bradley. Pac didn't look as fast before like at his days before going up to welter to face dlh

Yeah compubox counted Pacquiao getting hit quite a lot but I simply didn't see those punches landing.
Whenever I watch that fight I root for Margarito to land more punches so it's not so one-sided but according to compubox it wasn't one-sided at all.

    It's funny how that works

clearly ruined him? I disagree. margarito imposed his will, but manny did very well against the biggest opponent he has ever faced.

    A. He fought somebody who he had no Buisness fighting again. And that was Marquez.

    B. him being exposed on certain levels in regards to boxing( not fighting but boxing) has shown holes in his ability.

    C. Now his opponents ability and his age play a factor.

    D. His fans are now realizing what others have been saying regarding - tailor made opponents, catch weights, and that air of invincibility, was carefully constructed.

Bottom line - we like manny as a fighter, but dont put him in there with Floyd. It would be the worst beating he would get mentally and it just might retire him

I think it's just age. His style is very high energy. You just can't maintain that for too long.

ummm, he has a style based on physical attributes, like power and speed.

....and he got older, its really not that complex.

Also his "decline" is massively exaggerated.

In the last 2-3 years hes fought.

    Miguel Cotto-Destroyed him.

    Joshua Clottey-won every round.

Antonio Margarito- Beat the ever loving **** out of him.

    Shane Mosely-Won every round

JMM- Had a very close fight with him...JUST LIKE THE OTHER 2 TIMES!.

Tim Bradley-Robbed against an undefeated, top 10p4p fighter.
