Hatton has the better resume but skill-wise, Calzaghe is far better.

Only thing that makes Hatton better is he took risks without waiting for everyone to rot and went right after them.

Calzaghe thought too much of his WBOgus and didn't even attempt to unify and thought he's the "champ" so he didn't have to travel for anyone. Ironically, it was OKAY to travel with his lineal title when everyone was beyond shot and have been shot for 5+ years.

Your post fell apart when you said Mayweather will go on to be seen as the greatest fighter of all time. I think Hatton and Joe are about equal, really.

This is more of a Calzaghe hate thread than a Hatton is better thread. Indiscrection is the master subtlety.

I see where your coming from Hatton had some ruff fights. Most fighter wouldnt even go that route. Thats the fighters heart, most fighters dont have that in this era.

Joe is the better fighter judging skills alone - Hatton's opposition was tougher. One huge prime name on Joe Cs resume would elevate him above Ricky. Truth be told, I think both of these guys are a bit overrated.

better because he took more risk? what kind of logic is that?
i don't care if rickey faught a klitschco. that wouldn't make him better.
here's a point youve so far failed to see. you are giving credit for losing. saying at least he had the guts. saying that with 20/20 hindsight. what if calzaghe did get a loss to b-hop? would he then get credit for being a risk taker?
the same criticism can be made about hattons match with collazo. you can't honestly compare collazo to hopkins. resume wise you can compare only so far. hatton took failing shots at two dominant fighters. calzaghe didn't have anyone in his division who resembled a pac or floyd, save himself. joe couldn't fight himself. i'm supposed to fault him for that?
joe faught hop. hop had just beat pavlic. if that's not risk enough, youre just choosing hatton for personality sake. i don't care who's the nicer guy.

Calzaghe > Hatton and it's not even close. In terms of boxing ability Calzaghe was streets ahead of Hatton in almost every department.

He has the better wins overall, the best legacy, the better resume. Hatton was absolutely awful to watch towards the end of his career.

If Hatton had beat Mayweather or Pacquiao there would be a case for at least a good debate on it but as it stands no chance.

i give Hatton the nod. To me its what you do. But Cal had better skills I'll give him that. But so did Zab, and we all know what happen to him. That thing I like about Hatton is 140 to 147 had some of the best name out there in any division. And Hatton fought 2 of the greatest names out there.

Hatton doesn't even have a better resume. He got his ass kicked in a big way against Mayweather and Pacquiao. It's not as if he even put up a great fight to give him credit, he was outclassed severely. Well done for stepping up to the plate (although who wouldn't for the money involved), but it really doesn't contribute a great deal to his record. We don't give Baldomir credit for getting whooped, do we?

For actual wins I think Hopkins and Kessler were up there with his win over Tszyu and better than all his others.

The only area Hatton excels in compared to Calzaghe is level of competition. Hatton wins that no doubt.

    Footwork?

    Power?

Other than those two I'd say Calzaghe is certainly superior.

If Hatton had stayed with Warren then you can guarantee he would not have faced Mayweather and Pacquiao and would have instead stayed in Manchester beating the likes of Michael Stewart and Ray Oliveira. In doing this he could have easily surpassed Calzaghe's 46-0 and then probably gone on to fight a shot De La Hoya and a geriatric Shane Mosley before retiring. If this had been the case then people would be talking about Hatton as some ATG and claiming that Mayweather and Pacquiao ducked Hatton and that if they had have fought Hatton would have won. Some people will believe anything they are read in the Sun, watch on Skysports or hear from the Sports Network hype machine.

For the record I think Calzaghe was the more talented boxer but at least Hatton made the biggest fights happen.
