Why is Calzaghe considered a ducker?

glen johnson lol johnsons record at 168 is an absoloute disgrace, the competition for johnson was clearly too much at 168.

A few of you Yanks are completely f*cking ignorant and/or stupid. Not all of you, but on this forum when Calzaghe is mentioned many seem like idiot haters.

Calzaghe was managed by ******, Golden Boy or Top Rank would never have risked one of the up and coming fighters or PPV stars Vs Calzaghe when Calzaghe wasn't a huge ppv star. The risk vs reward didn't make sense. The only time they did was with Lacy as they thought he would win as he was a favourite, but he got destroyed. That cost the US promoter millions in lost hype, marketing and future ticket sales (ironically it made Calzaghe a big star and able to call the shots on all future SMW promotions)! On the flip side ****** wasn't going to set up fights with US fighters that couldn't sell out a 2000 seater arena when Calzaghe became a superstar!

It's not good enough to be even on skills, you have to be even on sales too!

If everyone had the same promoter all the fights we'd like to see would be made, but we don't we live in a World where all the promoters are rival companies and don't want you watching someone elses product! You wouldn't have a singer on the Sony record label turning up and dueting with a singer from another label. It's the same in boxing, unless the money makes sense......

Promoters know that if their Cash cow get's beaten the opponent not only picks up the win, but also nicks a large portion of the fan base and stays relevant to the buying public! That's why they like to keep it all in house. That's the reason Calzaghe was one of the most ducked fighters in the early 2000's.

Also a B rated fighter from the EU is no different from the B rated (but over hyped) fighters the US opponents fight. Calzaghe fought as a good fighters as he could have at the time. The average fighters in the US get hyped as are on undercards of bigger stars and so you believe those fighters are better than Euros. They're not, you just see them a few times a year, whereas you never hear of people from other Countries. This leads to the International bias.

Those are excuses for one fighter. Just come up with some for about 30 more and explain why he fought 20 "defenses" against bums and you will be about half way there.

Mainly because people struggle with the concept of research on here, the funniest fighter i heard Calzaghe duck was De La Hoya closely followed by James Toney, i mean.... really wtf.

i know I shouldn't mention his name, but his previous promoter Voldermort likes to protect his fighters for as long as possible.

Most of this is either off point or plainly not true. There are massive differences in the way US based fighters are promoted. They have to take chances and fight tough fights to get any recognition or pay. There are almost no "million dollar" investments in fighters by promoters. It just doesn't happen. Not a single poster, commercial, or paid interview ever occurs for 99% of US based fighters. Joe wasn't ranked highly enough in the US for anyone to ever worrying about ducking him. The WBO was not considered a legit sanctioning body at the time of Joe's "reign" and no knew who he was in the US. Most American fighters won't fight in Great Britain because of the horrible decisions, early stoppages, and out and out robberies.

because after establishing himself and reigning for a bit he did not seek out the challenges that were avalable choosing instead to fight scrubs at home. Twice cancelled fights with a tough Glenn Coffee Johnson.

He was a journeyman at Supermiddle weight, Calzaghe beat the guy (Sheika) who had previously dispatched Johnson who was on a 3 match losing run, cant really complain at that, oh wait, i suppose you'll find a way.
