I overrated him a bit. Now I'm not so sure he would have squashed cotto. It would have probably been an easier fight for cotto instead of Ali, based on styles.
One-dimensional. Power. If you exchange he will take you out. If you move he doesn't know what to do.
Guys who have KO power are always overrated. I don't consider Tyson an ATG since he lost to the elites but many think he's top 25 ATG.
Yeah. Comical. He was a monster. But who did he step in the ring with? The very guy that your so called Mexican ran in terror from GGG asked for an immediate rematch at the Azteca. The very place Maradona made his name How unfortunate after an ATG in JMM, you have to put up with a feeble, belt dropping, testing avoiding, roided to he gills A-side diva coward like Canelo
Agreed! I find it hard to believe he never learned to slip a jab, cut the ring off or have decent defence. If he could learn one of those skills he would be very difficult to deal with. Just get some good head movement when walking your opponent down for Christ sake!
Lemieux started getting grossly overrated around here going into the Golovkin match, when people started making crazy claims that it was going to turn into the new Hagler-Hearns. It was baffling, because as you mentioned, Lemieux had already suffered a couple of losses and was shown to be a fighter with some glaring flaws, but all the same, he was very highly regarded by many. All of that said, as much as Lemieux was overrated, BJS always tended to be underrated, I think.
Hater Logic: *Call a titlist and long time top 10 guy...a bum, a can, d level....ect. *Declare people are overrating him for defending him for what he was and you were right the whole time at opportunity. Ex. "This is the worst burrito...EVER. " " Its not that bad, man.." "You think this is the best burrito? You idiot, why are you overrating it."
People werent really comparing them to Hagler/Hearns on a career scale. It was the expectation of a fire fight because people mistakingly thought Golovkin was a one dimensional brawler and not capable of being "level above"
It's probably true that some people were underrating Golovkin's skill set. But that doesn't explain the extraordinary belief people had in Lemieux.
There's a lot of hate in your post. Sucks for you as a boxing fan. I actually like GGG, and I've even paid to watch him fight. His fans on the other hand, a large portion are fanatical and it's satisfying bringing them back down to reality. Like the reality that DL as charismatic, exciting to watch he is a solid gatekeeper at best. He will always have a punchers chance, his power is undeniable, but top boxers will school him. He doesn't do anything other than chase you trying to knock your head off. A counter puncher like Canelo would look espectacular against him. BJ Saunders toyed with him all night long. No elite fighter in their, at their best weight class loses like that.
In all honesty every Golovkin opponent tends to get overrated around here. I also think as many have stated already that punchers tend to get overrated. As far as Saunders, I've only seen the Eubank fight besides this one. Regardless GGG or Canelo should be gunning for that WBO title, so we're likely to see how he fares against the elite.
