When he faces someone half decent you will see that he doesn't knock them out.

He only beat Ortiz because he was tired , he wasn't 'knocked out'

At least if Wilder gets a body on his record it won't be permanent.

That's true. His cross is technically quite sound and he gets a lot of whip into the shot. He's also good at splitting it through the guard, and has decent timing on the shot. It's not really a mystery that he gets a lot of power into it.

This. The lever effect increases the impact of any given swung shot. The longer the lever, the faster the end of it is travelling. That's why skinny spindly looking types can actually smash like hammers. His nightmare would be somebody with the head movement to slip the incoming on the outside, the footwork to close distance rapidly and the technique and power to bust him up close. *cough* povetkin *cough* Not naming any names ...

Wilder hits hard when he faces tomato cans with zero reflexes or chin.

Wilder has mastered the three secret arts which enable him to use all of his god-given power to the fullest.

    - Feetwork
    - Athletic-sism
    - Mediating

As some other posters already pointed out correctly Wilder throwing his right hand with incorrect technique is a myth, he has by far the best in the heavyweight division.

His windmill punches are of course technically incorrect but he improved and only throws wide and loopy punches
now when he doesn't have to fear anything coming back from his opponent.

Correct form does not always mean maximum power. Lifting weights is a good example. You can lift incorrectly and dangerously and push a bigger load than you would using strictly safe form. Same with punching in boxing, doesn’t mean it’s the correct way to do.

In Wilder’s case he’s one of the most gifted athletes we’ve ever seen in boxing. He’s so blessed that he can use seemingly poor technique and still blast the **** out of his opponents. He’s two wins away from boxing immortality, what a ****ing legend.

How long is a piece of thread?

Honestly every human being is built differently, some guys just have that freakish power thats combination of physical attributes.

Earnie shavers... hardest hitter?... 6 foot!

    Mike Tyson sub 6 foot

Why did they hit hard? Not technique alone.

Wilder is fast twitch, fast acceleration, long arms/levers... doesn't matter how he throws a punch, it's going to hurt like hell.

Try taking a punch from a really tall athletic dude, it feels bad.

    Physics 1
If you have a uniform line pivoting around a point, the force on the outer reach of the line is a function of the length of the line.

    Bottom line

Wilder has long arms, and wide frame, when he loops a shot it's going to generate a huge amount of force as a result of the longer lever.

    Physics 2
    Force=Mass x Acceleration

    Bottom line

Therefore the distance traveled (83 inch arm), acceleration of muscles (fast twitch) and weight behind his (tall/ large frame) fist will cause more damage than other opponents as a result.

There are other factors too like he's kinetic chain, but that gets more complicated, same principle though = fast twitch muscles in unison across the body = explode like dynamite.

Mechanical efficiency too of the body as a whole, some people built different with shoulder width, ligament strength, limb length, to optimally transfer big power in short time.

Take Michael Phelps, well built for swimming!

As others have pointed out his straight right hand is thrown with sound technique. He has a wide stance which gives him a strong base toe generate power, long levers to also generate power, that combined with speed, solid technique and reach allows him to deliver a right hand with serious power.

Yes his technique and fundamentals are poor at times, he's inconsistent in this regard but same could be said of Tyson Fury and Vitali. But between the ungainly looking punches and movements there's enough quality to be effective. They are not pretty fighters but Foreman wasn't a pretty fighter to watch either and he hit like a truck going 90mph at your face.
