Just read it, and b4 I saw your reply I thought you had a top counter.

Why do I say that? B/c it's not as bad as even I thought ! ;) And I love taking it to the nostalgia crowd and all their biases. Another aspect of biasing older fighters - esp. HWs - is most fans have a strong tendency to remember, and even exaggerate, their top bouts. They conveniently forget their heroes stinkers and "big" wins vs no hopers :deal

By today's everybody is an "expert" internet standards, most of Ali's opponents would be ridiculed to the max on boxing sites :yep

the division is completely devoid of talent outside of wladimir klitschko. america hasn't produced a talented heavyweight in over 10 years, the best american heavyweight is probably jennings and he is clearly a regression from past greats.

i think when your truely great, you not only compete, but conquer ...just like i think ali would crush most of todays HW, i also think tyson would crush most the HW division, but just like any fight, styles make fights, so match up against an unfavorable style and its a loss...but ppl like prime ali, prime tyson, prime ray robinson, i think still compete at the top of their divisions and crush most of todays fighters....

one thing you need to remember, back in the day, there was less belts, and less divisions, fighters had no choice but to fight against guys bigger, and often had to move up divisions to get fights(james toney comes to mind), today fighters decide they wanna stay in their division and not move up 10 lbs, and cant move down 10 lbs cuz their already as lean as their body can go...and lets not start on the 15 rounds....where alot of todays fighters have problems keeping gas for more than 8-10 rounds

Ive just never seen Tyson beat anyone all that great.

Holmes looked worse at 34 than Thompson does at 42.:-(

And Holmes was my favorite at the time.

Sure Tyson likely beats these guys....but so does Lewis, and Ali, and the K2....and prime Holyfield would beat most of em too.:good:good:think

Not that it matters.....my response was to the OP that says the top HWs aint fighting each other or making solid fights....but before the 00s, a guy like Joey Abell woulda been a title challenger.....now...he's cannon fodder for even prospects.:good

Yes siree, PRIME Tyson, the one that took out a scared stiff CW M Spinks in R1. 3 fights later he loses to Douglas :huh Ppl never even define MTs "prime". MTs prime must have been mid-late 80s when he fought his share of journeymen & no hopers. Hell he went the distance w/the likes of - J Tillis, M Green, J Smith, and the "great" T Tucker :think Mythical Tyson is more like it... and I liked MT. Once he lost Cus, left Rooney, and got involved w/his fame and snakes like Don King he sealed his decline. Also once a short HW loses some speed/explosiveness, his top of the heap days are over.

I think Thompsom, win/lose/or draw gives MT hell - even "prime" MT. Same for Fury if he gets past the early rounds. Prime MT went the distance w/smaller HWs that could move & jab, of course losing to Douglas when MT was 23? 24 yrs old :blood I notice you don't name the A list HWs of the past 10-15 years. I could list all of MTs opponents that LL, K bros, and many other HWs could beat, most easily. So what?

Tyson must hold the record for the shortest prime of any great HW of the past 50 years ! :deal

The anti current HW scene peeps keep bringing up mainly 2 HWs from the past - Tyson & Ali (as you have) that could "beat up" today's top HWs, and for obvious reasons. It has become embarrassing if not sad in its irrationality and bias :-(

You mean the Ali who was decked by 185# Cooper and 205# Frazier,... and went life and death 3X (most fans think losing twice) with chinny Norton??? :patsch
More like he'd be crushed by top, modern HWs. I could see Ali with workman like decisions over B/C list modern HWs... and he probably struggles in some of those.

I think Ali loses to just about any recent to current top HW. Building up Frazier, who Ali also had hell with in 3 bouts, or the Nortons to make Ali look like superman doesn't cut it. But that's what ppl like you do. And no amount of logical comparisons will change your mind :-(

    oh well lets see

    Chris Eubank(ATG at 168)

    Robin Reid(former champion)

Richie Woodhall(olympic medalist and former champion)

    Mario Veit(undeafeted and interim champion)

Charles Brewer(former world champion and should have still been one)

Byron Mitchell(2X former world champion and should have been one when he fought calzaghe, robbed as well by ottke)

Jeff Lacy(world champion and supposed to be the new Tyson until Calzaghe ruined him)

Bika(Joe beat this guy 8 years ago when. the division was supposibly weak but Bika couldnt win a title then. Fast forward 8 years and bika is now past his prime and a world champion in a 'red hot era')

Kessler(world champion and undeafeted and in his prime. Kessler went on to beat Froch when kessler was past his best and is still a top 3 guy(in a red hot era) even when he is well past his best and 7 years after Calzaghe beat him convinvingly in a 'weak era' lmfao

so on a scale of 1 to 10 how ******ed does iceman look guys?
