Wrong. It takes heart to show up and perform night in and night out. No one has an easy career when you're talking +30 fights at the World Championship level. At some point a fighter has to dig deep to remain winning on such a level. People have a mistaken perception about "heart" meaning you trade shots and sometimes "go out on your shield". There are more ways than that to demonstrate heart.

if you hadnt noticed, nallege makes up facts on the fly. if he gets called on a blatant lie, he just ignores and deflects and keeps on truckin. i admire him... in an unhealthy way. to be able to set aside pride, dignity, credebility, and self respect for the sake of winning an internet debate, well that just takes something special.

Hmm, I agree totally - by that note, I judge Calzaghe quite lowly because what he DID do, wasn't much and when he did, it was tarnished by things like "it's too late" "he was overrated to begin with" etc - It's not all his fault, I know. I dont' want to start an argument. That's just my opinion and I'm not here to bash Calzaghe.

Look at what Paquiao is doing - like him or hate him, he is challenging himself in every fight. EVERY fight is an unknown going into it for him because he's trying either something new, something bigger or something that on paper should be better than what he has done before.

Look at people like Katsidis, who isn't the best, but again, he takes a challenge in nearly every fight - he comes up second a bit but he doesn't care and people love him for it - losses and all.

Winky Wright also has a resume for any boxer to envy and challenges himself and leaves alot less to be desired in his career than alot of other fighters. Dawson is following that trend too and nearly all the top 8 guys in the SMW division are finally sorting their **** out and getting it on too.

The above guys all have their haters, but rarely are they hated because they "didn't fight this guy or that guy" they are hated for other reasons - Floyd, Calzaghe, Jones Jr are fighters who often have that "fight someone worthy" complaint next to their name

defensive minded fighters dont always get credit they deserve, especially by more casual fans.

My old man likes the brawler types like gatti or say pacman but not everyone is a knock out hitter and they think guys like PBF or winky is being a coward because they aint trading shots but the whole point of the game is to hit and not be hit. This aint a toughman contest this is professional boxing.

It's pretty simple. Not everyone is born with immense talent in fact most people aren't.

But most people DO know what its like to face adversity and go through a rough time.

*Courage* and willpower get far more fanfare, and respect I might add, then talent and rightly so(assuming were talking the definition as something your born with).

    Props.

This is the first intelligent post I have read in the GF in a few weeks.

I'd like to say that most games/sports of competitive nature are based off this notion. Boxing is just a fundamentalized representation of it.

    seriously?

I think the OP's assesment is pretty good. Also top guys don't want to lose becuase it will cost them millions so they don't take many risks, so they fight guys they know they can beat easily and get paid. The guys just below them have to take risks to get paid becuase anyone with a name is a threat to them.

I was never a huge Calzaghe fan but to say he wasn't a gifted fighter strikes me as being just plain ignorant.

Just look at the difference. Mosley is and was a speedy, powerful talent. But the reason he got his fanbase is because of the way he used it, he wasn't afraid to take a risk.

Mayweather gets flak for not taking a risk enough, although he doesn't seem to put himself in against fighters that have the ability to offer a risk for him.

IE Clottey Mosley Cotto PW or someone.
