it's not really about who's more talented, who's brawler, who's a pure-boxer, etc. the thing is a boxer gets props when he gives what the fans wants: fight who he's supposed to fight and fight with all he have. no one wants to see a fighter who takes safe fights just to highlight how good he is, if you're a top guy, then fight a fellow top guy.

Ok I'm going to post a thought or two aside from the bickering.

I'll never say that any fighter who has excelled in pro boxing has no heart but there are fights that do separate a fighter from being good and being great. It's those fights that show what you're made of when the pressure truly is on and it takes the opponents to show that.

Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali have shown time and again they had what it took inside to be the greatest....even in defeat. They sought and fought the best. There are countless other great fighters I can mention along with their fights that show when they had to dig deep and find something beyond skill or ability: desire.

Where does Floyd fit in here? His chapter is not completed as a fighter, but since leaving 135 lbs(where he was sublime as a fighter against credible foes) he has met fighters who didn't represent the best challenges for him. Floyd because of his ungodly ability has the unfortunate burden of having to go above and beyond. He'll have to in order to be held in the same light as Ali or Robinson or Arguello and other greats....because they did too in facing the greatest of challenges and if not defeatng them, being defeated with ATG honor and showing. To be pushed beyond the comfort level of your skills and have to rely on desire to see you through(and no I don't mean just slugging it out, but keeping it together and doing what is needed to be done to win...whatever your style and ability lets you do)

Floyd needs to fight all the percieved threats in order to be pushed. And if he beats them with ease? It shows how great he is. If he is pushed and wins? Shows he can deal with that type of adversity. If he loses? I fault no one for coming up short in the pursuit of greatness. Maybe he wins a rematch? Countless greats have redeemed defeats in rematches. If he loses the rematch? Shows he has the character and desire to strive to try and overcome of challenge that got the better of him...and that he can't be psychologically beaten by losing. That he is noone's ***** even in defeat.

The key here is he needs these fights for his legacy. Just like all the greats of the past have. So there is no doubt where he stands. I'd have more reverance for him striving for this greatness and losing than never trying at all. This is beyond business and dollars, this is about something all the money in the world could never buy...and that is legacy and glory. To be considered beyond any doubt the best of the best....and have the performances in the ring to prove it when stacked against other greats.

Floyd has it at 130, at 135, he did what he could at 140(much of what could have been there was not so much in his control), but he has the chance of a lifetime at 147, a historically rich division of great fighters.:bbb
