    Why is Ali the greatest

    What makes him so special
    What makes him greater than

    -floyd mayweather
    -Tyson
    -Frazier
    -Foreman
    -anthony joshua
    -jeff horn
    -klitschko
    -fury
    -fabulous four
    -willie pep
    -roy Jones
    -oscar de la hoya etc

Why does everyone say Ali is the greatest and not the others mentioned?

He is a shining light and transcended boxing. There was a thread recently and only ali and Tyson reached super stardom.

whether he is the greatest is up for debate, but he is the icon of heavyweight boxing

Because he was a 195 lb heavyweight who had the hand and footspeed of a 147 lb boxer. He could stick and move better than any heavyweight that had ever got in between the ropes yet he could set down on his punches and hurt his opponent. He fought all comers and was not afraid to fight 4 times a year. Even after coming back from 4 years off he was able to remake himself with less movement and more power at 225 and the hand speed was still there. While the sheer weight and height of today's heavyweight would be a challenge, his movement would bewilder some of these slow handed and slow footed heavyweights that today's fan think are "great."

Speed, power, intelligence, grace, courage, charisma. Younger people who weren't around when Ali was active don't believe that what they hear and read is real. I pity them for not embracing the entity that was Muhammad Ali.

Ali had incredible heart. Prior to the Liston fight the newspaper men memorized the fastest route to the hospital so they could get Cassius Clays face on camera and ask him questions after he got destroyed. People literally thought he’d die in the ring. He didn’t. Clay got some ointment in his eyes and could not see, he was blind in the eyes and went out against the most murderous puncher of that era. Blind. Clay beat Liston and became the champion.

Refusing to be drafted in a war he didn’t believe in, Clay now Ali took on the United States government with the same heart he fought Liston with. It cost him his championship (he did not lose it in the ring) as well as three years of his prime. He fought for what was right. That still meant something then as it showed he was a fighter outside the ring as well.

Ali then has wars with Joe Frazier and takes on the monster George Foreman in ‘74. Another fight that was supposed to see Ali brutally beaten. He used his mind to best Foreman and take back his belt showing that in addition to Heart he had Ring IQ and general intelligence.

As for the greatest... he accurately predicted the rounds he would win in more often than not. Beat some of the best who had ever laced up gloves and transcended the sport to change laws in the United States from draft laws: https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/alie28099s-supreme-court-decision-was-biggest-victory
To inspiring the Ali reform boxing act of 2000. He was his own man. Not hiding behind promoters and his skill set was incredible. While many do not consider him the best boxer ever (see Sugar Ray Robinson) they consider him the greatest for EVERYTHING his career was, which was nothing short of magical.

He beat the most great fighters of any heavyweight.

    Foreman
    Frazier
    Liston
    Patterson
    Norton
    Moore
    Foster

And his second tier would be impressive for a guy like Holmes or Kltischko.
    Quarry
    Lyle
    Shaver
    Spinks
    Young
    Mathis
    Foley
    Williams
    Bonevena
    Ellis
    Terrel

Hell, even guys like Wepner, Chavulo, Bugner, Dunn, Cooper, Jones, and London would add some shine to the records of many "greats."

Half of the fighter you listed don't belong in the same sentence as Ali.
    Horn!?
AJ? Can you imagine Ali losting to Ruiz?
Short answer: He's the most famous boxer of all time when boxing was still huge and he's probably the Greatest heavyweight of all time. People love heavyweight.
P4p greatest probably not, SRR is usually rated higher. But he didn't have the impact that Ali had.

There are many reasons why Muhammad Ali is the most popular boxer of all time, boxing reasons and non boxing reasons. He was one of the youngest winners of Olympic gold in light heavyweight, as well as the title of world professional heavyweight champion. He had the best movement in the ring, elegance, speed and strong directs. I will list a few non-boxing reasons:
    1. he was a black pride and black rights activist
2.he was a rebel and refused to go to the Vietnam War, why he was imprisoned
    3. changed his name and religion
4.he was the most beautiful boxer of his time
    5. was the most boastful and fastidious boxer
6.HW boxing was then the most watched broadcast in the world

It’s probably the whole package. At the time of his popularity he had character, charisma, was handsome, comical, loud & at times outspoken, a superb athlete, He was unique at the time,
Since then then there have been many better boxers generally, but not many at Heavyweight, if any at all.
