The fight is watchable yes, but I disagree on more entertaining. Donaire v Mares, Santa Cruz, Moreno, Rigo would be more entertaning. He's going under the extended Arum protection plan. Donaire is a phony. Once he stepped in with an "amateur" (his words) with skills he got schooled. Reacting to a loss by fighting a way past his prime fighter when Donaire was exclaiming nobody was in his league is phony bologna. Don't give me this a tune-up fight either. That's what sparring is for.
Com ON DuDe!! YOU Gotta Give RIGO His CREDIT Man!!!He SCHOOL YOU...AMateur DuDE putting ASS whooping on P4p GUY!!THIS donaire GUY is so Delusional!!!!
Why would he fight Rigo again and risk tarnishing his career? The only way Donaire can beat Rigo is if Rigo looses a leg, and fights his with a prosthetic leg.
Fight Rigondeaux again and see another borefest? :tired Donaire said on the pre-fight interview that he's gonna throw it no matter what.. And when he saw Rigondeaux was up for the challenge, seemed to me that he don't want to take some risks.. :bart Because he knows he's gonna get countered (see round 12)..
he just needs to come out and say it and stop with the excuses. rigondeaux is simply the better fighter.
Who really wants to see the rematch? It wasn't a close fight. Rigs Manager also stated that he won't be fighting Donaire again. He should beat up on the usual suspects that are available, like Darchinyan, Montiel, Agbeko, Moreno etc. He really schooled Donaire, and took his punches well, considering that Donaire looked to be at least 15 pounds bigger in the ring. Must have been really embarrassing for Donaire, Garcia, and Arum to witness that clinic first hand.
Because Rigo is a stylistic nightmare for Nonito which was proven by the schooling that has already taken place. After sustaining his first defeat in many years, I suspect that ND will want to get a confidence boosting win prior to even considering rematching the rubix's cube that is Rigondeaux.
Ironically enough, the guy who needs the rematch isn't Donaire, it's Rigo. Nonito's got bigger money fights at 126 on the horizon, has already made a nice chunk of change in his career, and has already accomplished a lot. Rigo's name value is almost exclusively the result of the first Donaire fight. Lord knows Arum isn't doing much to build it. He hasn't made near as much in his career and time is not on his side- his style should age well, but 32 year old super bantamweights only have so much tread left on the tires. The best thing that Guillermo could hope for is that Donaire clamors for a rematch and convinces Bob to let him do it. Otherwise, it's slim pickin's for Rigo. You're witnessing firsthand yet another example of how it doesn't pay to show up the house fighter. Rigo's not the first guy this has happened to, it's just the most high profile case of it.
Donaire's stock has dropped hard, so it goes both ways. Rigo might never make that much but neither will Donaire. Donaire was never that popular anyway. Radio City Music Hall barely sold out. I only watched Donaire because he just happened to be on HBO. I couldn't stand his pompous ass. I never bought into his cherry picked opponents. I openly questioned why he was FOTY when he was heavily favored against his opponents. It's too bad Rigo is getting the short end of the stick but considering where came from, he's not doing too bad for himself.
Donaire's earned much more than Rigo in his career and has had multiple seven figure paydays. Losing to Guillermo isn't going to damage that any more than losing to Rahim hurt Morales- fans chalk it up to the other guy fighting overly defensive and a bad styles clash, and check out the next fight anyways. He'll have no problem getting on HBO- boxing insiders don't consider it nearly the schooling it is on this forum, which makes it an easier sell. Economically, the two aren't close and the urgency is on Rigo's end since his promotor is less proactive in securing him fiscally rewarding fights, and the biggest paying network doesn't want him. For his part, Rigo needs to counter more if he's going to stick with that style, but for now, it's mostly out of his hands. I'm a fan of him, and he deserves another chance, but that's just the truth if we're breaking down marketability going forward. There's less money in promoting Rigo than Donaire, which is a big reason why Arum didn't want him to win in the first place. Guillermo got $750k for Donaire, and there's nothing out there for him remotely close to that. Of the two fighters, Rigo needs the rematch more.
Why would someone like Rigo go toe-to-toe with him when he's got 10 other paths to victory? To your second point, I'd love to see Donaire square off with Garcia.
