Please attempt to extol the virtues of Ajamu, or Hanshaw (who isn't bad at 168#) at 175. And Trinidad hasn't fought impressively since Mayorga, and that was Mayorga, after all. He is not a world-class fighter at anything above 160, and he looked awful against Wright even there. Jones moved like an old man against Tito. He played peekaboo because he has lost his legs and reflexes. He's nowhere close to 80% of what he was. To be clear, I am a huge Jones fan. I know enough about him to see that he has lost most of what him so great. He's still a quality fighter, but he'd lose convincingly to Dawson, who based on merit deserves the Calzaghe fight more than anyone else. I'm also experienced enough in arguments to know that someone can disagree with me without being unworthy. You may want to take note.
I'm not missing anything. The fight is built already, enough to warrant bypassing a potentially ruinous buildup. If Tarver defeats Jones and Dawson beats Calzaghe -- both realistic possibilities -- a lot of money has been flushed down the drain. You're being silly. Roy wants to make money. Even diehard Jones fans will tell you he never as a legacy fighter in the sense that, say, an Erik Morales was. Fighter interviews aren't the best sources of information. Dawson poses a significantly greater challenge to Calzaghe than Jones, and I'm sure Frank Warren realizes that. Calzaghe/Jones already is a huge fight. The odds of them both winning the setups you've laid out are less than 50%, so why would any rational business person risk taking starch out of the bigger fight during the set-up round. There's a reason ODLH is fighting Steve Forbes. He learned his lesson after Sturm.
The guy simply wanted to gain more stature and recognition . . . beating JC at this point is another big accomplishment that will go down the books . . . of course money is still a part of it.
One person's assertive is another person's foolhardy, but that's a different conversation. Jones probably would lose to Tarver, even though I think Antonio has slipped dramatically now as well. And Calzaghe taking on Dawson makes no financial sense at all. Of his current possibilities, Dawson represents likely the greatest challenge and definitely the lowest money. What you propose is madness, and no doubt the professional matchmakers will agree. OK, so you don't like Dawson. Fair enough. Blocky, how the hell can Trinidad be ranked anywhere at 175 when he's never fought there, and never won a fight at anything higher than 160? And looked awful in his most recent bout at 160, a couple years ago. You're not making any sense whatsoever. During the same stretch, Dawson has defeated Harding (bottom top 10 at the time), Adamek (top five) and Johnson (top five). Based on merit, who deserves the Calzaghe fight more than him? Calzaghe doesn't need a stamp. He's an ATG and the most accomplished fighter ever at 168. What he does at 175 is a bonus. Joe made a ton of money against Hopkins, and he himself has said he wants to fight Jones next. How is he searching for legacy fights when, in your own words, Jones is not a credible opponent? I don't blame Joe, but he's at the Mayweather stage of his career.
It's like Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays both at 40, wanting to face off in a homerun derby..the fans would have loved that...age is no factor in that
It already would be a big event. Bring it on this year. **** Tarver and Dawson. Let them do their own thing.
Well, yeah. It is ALL speculation. I agree with Cal/Jones neither have the time/risk for a build up. They decline by the day.:yep
Blocky, remind me to debate with you and your nuthuggery after my 1500th post! You have very narrow views, even for a casual fan. SO with that said, I have 3 or so posts to go then I'll see if you are up for debate.
Maybe it's time to post another picture of your fab abs.... You're just throwing a hissy fit because no one agrees with you too much. Calzaghe and Jones are already HUGELY popular, are they not? WTF does one more fight for both really do? Add 500K more buys? 300K? Not every fight NEEDS a lead-into fight top make it more money. Usually that works for the lesser known guys who NEED a build up.
Won't happen in a million years. So much ****ing easier said than done, too. By the way. :good Calzaghe-Jones Jr. is only a good fight for Calzaghe in terms of the potential money it brings. There's very little "meaningful" about it.
So what? What does Hopkins being shot have to do with it being a big event? What does that even matter? Again...what does this have to do with Joe C v. Jones being a big fight already? People will say either of those regardless. No. That will only keep the idiots from proclaiming such. Quit worrying about that type of ****. People will talk **** no matter what. WTF do you care if some poster on this board doesn't give either credit? Joe C and Jones are already much bigger then Cotto or Margarito. Get your head outta your ass SON. The only thing pitting Jones and Tarver then Joe C and Dawson does is making it possible that Joe C vs. Jones does NOT happen. How can someone so full of themselves not see that? Jones and Calzaghe is for big bucks. Change any of the opponents adding Tarver or Dawson, and it's not as big. And there's no guarantee Joe or Jones would even WANT Dawson or Tarver. Analyst my ass....atsch
NONE of that is guranatee...WHICH IS THE POINT. And which is why Joe C vs. Jones NOW makes a ton more sense. Dense much?atsch
