If you go off the judge scorecards it pretty much was. All 3 judges gave the 10th, a clear Kovalev round, to Ward. If they all gave it to Kovalev as he deserved then it would have been a Kovalev victory. Just wanted to point that out I agree it was a close fight overall but giving a clear round to the guy who didn't deserve it seems kinda fishy to me personally
Was he really? Looking back at this career with him pretty much being finished, you can see his highs and his lows, but looking at those lows, you can see where the historical greats could've outgutted him. I personally thought he was #1 or #2 p4p during his prime run. I don't think he was overrated, I think even after the Ward losses he was still ranked fairly highly, until Canelo. Then when he started getting touched more and more including stopped by E Alvarez, it started putting his career as a whole more into perspective. He was lauded for a while, then he fell off. It happens. Everyone doesn't have long prime runs, he actually had 3 years, that's a good run.
"If people want to talk about resume, let's be honest. This win that isn't on his official resume was the single best win of the decade." What. Let's pretend that's how resumes work. That "win" is still not better than Pacquiao-Marquez 4.
