This what always happens, the 80's sucked after the 70's and now this sucks after the 90's.

The division sucks, while the Heavyweights may be bigger and stronger than other generations, the talent of most these top fighters are limmited at best. I just feel for the most part the excitement of the division seems to be non exsistant, and only comes out when guys like Peter or Wlad has a match, it may not be the worst of all time, but it sure is far from the best.

IT's an extremely diverse division with some good ol' timers like Tua, Holyfield, Moorer, Briggs, TOS, etc. Some new young contenders like Povetkin, Chambers, Solis, Boystov, Arreola, etc. Some power punchers like Virchis & Peter, some boxers like Gomez, Dimentrenko, Thompson, etc. Some Cruiserweights moving up like Haye & possibly more.

The division was wide open just a few short years ago when Vitali, Ruiz, Byrd & Brewster held the belts. Posters complained that there wasn't one guy who was head & shoulders above the rest. Now we have Wlad trying to unify & some posters say the division is weak just because he has been winning in such dominating fashion. I thought that's what the fans wanted but apparently Wlad isn't American or "thug enough" for their tastes.

I'm sure history will remember these times better than "mediocre" if only for the diversity of the fighters styles & origins. I know I will.

RUSKULL, I never thought the division was in a great state 2 years ago when all the champs were american, Ruiz, Rahman, Brewster and Bryd. I could honestly care less where your from, my favorite fighter is Sam Peter. I understand you think the division is fine, but your the minority, and I'm sure if Wlad wasnt champ, you would be making fun of the division just like everyone else.

People say the division sucks but it only sucks for the Americans and Brits. The Russian league is full strength.

Not true, I think the division is DIVERSE with or without Wladimir. There are still some really good matchups that can be made at HW even if Wlad wasn't in the picture.

The truth is that the American HW picture is fairly bleak. There aren't any real standouts except Chambers, Brock & maybe Arreola & Thompson.

The overall HW picture is very good for those that can look past their nationality.

I have already stated in my last post, Im not being nationalistic at all, my favorite fighter is Sam Peter, who's far from American. And I already stated the division sucked just a couple years ago when it was all American title holders. I will say this though, these Euro fighters have no personalities what so ever, which I feel is a big part of the reason the average guy in the states really dont even pay attention to the Heavyweight division anymore. I think if Peter becomes champ and Wlad beats boring Iggy, things might get a little better, popularity wise.

Is having a personality equal to being a loudmouth trashtalker? If yes, then you're absolutely right. I guess it just comes down to cultural differences in the end.

On the other hand there is some truth in what you say. Argueably the two most popular HW fighters in history were Ali and Tyson. Both of them talked a lot of trash but they also had a very exciting boxing style. Ali was a slick, elusive boxer who was willing to slug it out if needed and Tyson was a real beast. These eastern euro HWs have different personalities. They don't talk trash, they are not used to handling the media as their predecessors were. What's more their fighting style is usually not that exciting in the eyes of the general public. They have a very effective but less entertaining style. Let's take Wlad for example. What he does nowadays is that he uses his heigth and reach advantage to land some accurate and powerful jabs then finishes with the murderous right. Boring but very effective. We don't know how that style would fare against the greats of the past it's possible he would take them out too. We'll never know for sure, what we do know however is that there's hardly anybody out there now who can cope with that style. If that's because it's so good or that there's no talent at all is still a big question. I tend to say that it's simply too effective. So yes, they might be boring in some ways but that doesn't mean they are bad at all. There were much worse periods in the division's history in terms of talent but this is certainly one of the worst in terms of popularity.
