I see what you did there. That was pretty clever, give yourself a pat on the back. Now run along and play on the swings with the other kids. Kessler would tag Miranda flush all night when Miranda is attempting to throw punches that resemble a cricket delivery.
Hes a very good and skilled fighter, but he hasn't beaten anyone and was a paper champion, and also fought bums before the Calzaghe fight and after it as well. He is overrated and when he stepped up in competition, was outgunned mid rounds and at one point, i was wondering if he would even finish the fight. I like him as a person, but he needs to prove himself against an upper echelon super middleweight before he runs into problems again.
What a load of bollocks! Kessler is one of the most loved boxers out there! He is by far the most popular fighter at 168! 51% of fans like him the most, including those who don't care a hoot about the division! http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91054 What are you people on?:huh Kessler is more popular than: [Bute (great guy, exciting fighter with cross-continent support) + Taylor ( great guy, fights the best, American star) + Froch (unbeaten hard hitter with great chin and hard-core rabid fans in Britain) + Andrade (great guy, fights the best, gives his all, always) + Lacy (brave, American) + Pascal (Canadian) + Inkin (Russian, unbeaten) + Miranda (very popular in America, puncher) + Bika (great guy with many fans around the world and in Australia, fights the best; gives his all) + Manfredo (American) + Green (American) + ANYONE ELSE AT SMW!!! (i.e. in the whole world)] all put together...and "there is so much hate for him"? YOU ARE NUTS!
I don't see Kessler beating Taylor, Pavlik, and definitely not Chad Dawson, who is the worse stylistic nightmare for him. Oh and for the thread starter, Kessler clearly avoided fighting Edison Miranda as well as any other dangerous super middleweight. He doesn't take chances, and he is also insecure. Also, explain to me how Sartison was a highly ranked contender? I follow boxing heavily and i have never heard of the guy in my life. Don't be fooled by the unbeaten record, Kessler's management did a great jop at finding an undefeated unkown opponent that was no threat whatsoever.
Most recent Ring Magazine top five super middleweights Champ: Joe Calzaghe 1. Mikkel Kessler 2. Anthony Mundine 3. Lucian Bute 4. Librado Andrade In bold are the ones Kessler has already faced., virtually shutting out two of them. How much more proven, or upper echelon, do you want?
Age old question...Chicken or Egg.....Andrade was a nobody he was unranked by Ring until after he lost to Kessler. Mundine:rofl this dude is one of the biggest wastes of talent over the past 25 years. And he lost to Calzahge.
Andrade is not a champion and what dominate champion has Mundine beaten? He lost to Calzaghe by a wide margin. Those are good wins so don't get me wrong, however many people don't know who Mundine is and certainly not Andrade. Many fighters are thrown into those top 10 rankings as well. For example, they put Jones as number 10 at light heavyweight when in his come back, all of the opponents that he faced were not ranked in that division. Prince? Hanshaw? TRINIDAD?
:yep That's funny. He got more votes then the other guys combined..Well for the people that think he is being hated wont be happy until he has every vote:-((
People that don't know Andrade/Mundine are just ignorant. It's no reflection on Kessler, more the quality of poster. Not only did he beat them, he did it convincingly showing litlte to no weakness until Calzaghe. He's impressive, but of course he needs to do it against even better competition to get full respect from everyone.
So, again, then, taking on the guys ranked #1 and #3 in the division in their own backyards is not taking chances or taking on a dangerous opponent? And yet fighting Edison Miranda who is not top 10 ranked at 168 and in his only fight of any significance there got starched in 4 by a blown up middleweight would be?
I didn't say that Kessler needed to fight Miranda, i only stated that he avoided him and he did. He took the fight and in fact, Miranda gave him all of the advantages and yet Kessler still backed out of it. Another thing that i should point out is the fact that Miranda was a top 10 at super middleweight at the time. The ring felt that he was a marketable fighter and placed him there after his wins over Porras and Banks. That was a fight in which i expected Kessler to win rather easily, that should show us his insecurity right there.
I didn't say Andrade was a champion. Or that Mundine had beaten a dominant champion. Believe it or not, dominant champions are so dominant because they don't tend to get beat very often! There are only a handful of them in boxing at the mo: Klitchko, Calzaghe, Cotto until recently, maybe Chris John at a pinch. The original post to which I replied stated that Kessler "hadn't beaten anyone" and "needed to prove himself against an upper echelon super middleweight". My point was, how much more upper echelon can you get than two of the top five in the division (and Beyer who was top 5 when he was KO'd by Kessler). The man in the street may not know who Mundine or Andrade are. However, anyone professing to be a serious boxing fan should know, and whether they are well known or not does not have anything to do with their ability. If these guys don't count as upper echelon super middleweights then who does?
What other elite fighter was there other than Calzaghe? A fight in which Kessler clearly loss. He needs to fight someone like Pavlik or Jermain Taylor so he could prove that he is on the elite level. Taylor and Pavlik has the credentials. Taylor has two wins over Hopkins who beat Tarver and Wright( who were both on the pound for pound list at the time) and Pavlik beat Taylor twice and dominated the man that Kessler avoided, Edison Miranda. Mundine and Beyer were good wins, but they were not elite, plus they weren't star quality.
