 c'mon punisher. it was a dull but dominant performance from wlad. he failed to capitalize on the hype surrounding the event but he dominated a top5 hw with a jab. how many fighters today could that?

he shut down iggy completely who failed to land 1 meaningful punch. it was excellent performance technically but i did not like his conservative use of the right and left hook. no uppercuts. he must use those weapons more but sultan never made him have to. i will give him a pass on this one as long as he makes it up. the last time an opponent has landed a good punch on him was almost 2.5 years ago against peter. his defense is amazing.

at least u get to see me sport Waldo avatars for the next 3 months

I can agree with most of your post, but your telling me you didnt think Wlad was a little nervous to get hit with Iggy's left hand? I felt he was afraid to throw the right because he thought he was going to get countered.

Klitschko should start to fight as cautiously as Floyd Mayweather, Jr. You'd see the biggest double standard you can imagine. He would never lose a fight. I'd like to see these people boo-hoo over Klitschko and praise Mayweather/Hopkins/Wright. It's like these people repeatedly pull their eyes out after paying $50 to see one of the aforementioned three guys fight boring fight after boring fight after boring fight and then look to Klitschko to redeem them on free HBO.

Why? It has nothing to do with the result... When I choose to see a prize-fight, I am not supposed to get Olympic Sword Fighting and Figure Skating instead! I don't know how you people can stand but I get on the limits of nervous breakdown whenever I see a guy standing upright and throwing long jabs all night long to keep a much smaller guy away from him. I saw the same in five rounds against Brock, in six rounds against Brewsta, in twelve rounds against Peter and then we all gat to listen how exciting his fights are? Damn!

Idiotic criticism. It was a dominant performance, Ibragimov is not a suckup fighter like Zab Judah, thats an undefeated Olympic silver medallist.

i just think wlad is lacking the killer instinct right now. he's got everything else but that. that's the main difference between lennox and wladimir at this point. he should have more confidence to just let his hands go. he needs a challenge to bring it out of him. peter forced him to fight and it was great fight.

mercer/lennox was great. lennox showed he could take a punch and fire back.

He certainly didnt show it last night, there were very little skills showed by Iggy last night, no combinations, little footwork, weak defense, every big punch he threw missed the mark, and it wasnt even like Wlad was that good last night, Iggy was that bad.

Ummm...are you seriously insinuating that there aren't a ton of fans here and on other forums who are critical of Mayweather, Hopkins and Wright's in-ring styles? :huh

Gotta love boxing forums. Everyone loves to fling their own **** around at fighters until their guy gets criticized, then people start making bogus claims about agendas (and usually bigotry) on the part of others.

It seems very apparent to me that Sultan actually came to fight last night (shockingly). Klitschko came to hide behind his left. Props to Klitschko for not letting the little man inside on him.

I haven't seen Wlad take a decent punch to the head in his last five fights. He's fortunate that Peter is a shitty boxer because he should has been KTFO that night. Since then, nobody has really hit him and they're going to make sure it stays that way.

We the fans buy the tickets and support these fighters -- we have every right to criticise lackluster effort. The boos were warranted last night.

That's all cool and he has proven right there that he is the best heavyweight in the world... But his brother took on Lewis and went toe to toe and that's why people still respect him. Why doesn't he want to get it on with big name fighters in the States and demolish them? Byrd, Brock, Brewster, they're all good and Sultan beat Briggs and Evander... Why hasn't Wlad simply taken on old-timers Briggs, McCall, Evander, Tua and tried to knock em out right away? Don't tell me he is afraid for them and doesn't want to hurt em?

wlad is a very strong guy but he's also been worryingly floored by big hitters. it might not be 'crowd friendly' but, honestly, wlad's doing the right thing by being smart in the ring even though it isn't great to watch.

I am saying that the difference is that Mayweather, Hopkins and Wright receive much more respect for being smart boxers (meaning boring boxers to casual fans) match after match and take less criticism than Klitschko performing similarly one time in his career.

It just depends on what you like. If you want toe to toe gladiator type
fighting watch reruns of Ward-Gatti. If you like to watch a defensive
master hone his craft and dissect and toy with a fellow co-champion then
re-watch Wlad-Sultan. Both these guys are two former amatuer superstars.
I don't think Wlad wanted Sultan to land a significant punch. He was
far happier humiliating Sultan by completely dominating him Olympic style
which is boring to many but displays incredible boxing skill.

Wlad showed more violence slapping sultan's hand down.

    that's exactly right.
criticism comes from wlad being spectator friendly or not which isn't always conducive to winning a fight.
of course a fighter with more flair will draw the crowds, earn the bigger bucks and so on - but you have to win the fight first and, as i've said above, wlad knows he can fall like a sack of spuds if he gets hit on the button. for me, he fought a smart fight.
