Why is Wladimir Klitschko So Overrated?

I can't work out why people rate him so highly. He's fought a succession of sub par opposition, and admittedly has taken care of business, but has had to be heavily coerced by steward into knocking some of them out. A quality champion wouldn't need this kind of encouragement. The 3 KO losses were against average to poor opponents although admittedly he's come back well. I'm convinced he only looks good because his opponents allow him to fight within his comfort zone. The first Peter fight shows that he doesn't react well at all when put under serious pressure. What is it that people like so much? The picture perfect 1-2? We'll find out when he fights Haye whether he can really fight and i'm pretty damn sure this lummox is going to be found wanting.

 

i tend to agree. take everything he does but make him 6f2 and 220lbs and he gets ****ed up by everyone he as faced even the bums.

 

Any man who dominates his era, no matter how poor, has to be respected. I have never read anyone seriously argue that Wlad is amongst the best ever heavyweights in history but he has been THE man for long enough to earn our respect.

 

Maybe a bit over the top? I think he uses his height well and all power to him for that but there is no way he could deal with a good pressure fighter with a chin. I think that if Haye follows up his attacks then Klitschko will move back in a straight line and get caught. He'll have to keep moving laterally when not throwing though, Klitschko's straight right could catch him out due to it's speed.

 

Fair enough but I can't work out why some people rank his career over that of his brother.

Ridiculous argument. You think a 6'2 Wlad would fight the same way as he does now? It's like saying Manny Pacquaio would be the greatest fighter of all time if he was a natural heavyweight... it's just not a sensible argument

I bet if your boyfriend Haye had Wlad's resume you wouldn't be making this thread about him

 

your right he deserves respect but he had dominated his era bums and while he may not have avoided certain fighters, allot of the better heavyweights during his time as champion are missing from his resume.

Valuev, Ruiz, Toney are by no means great Heavyweights but there better than allot of fighters he has faced over the years.

Part of the reason he has dominated the era is because he has a brother who can fight other fighters thats a threat to him. Wlad fights the boxers, Vitali fights the punchers. thats how they do it. He never has to rematch Corrie Sanders because his brother did it for him. He waited until Lamon Brewster has fallen apart, unable to obtain a license in the US before he faced him again.

Klitscko has a range finding jab and a hard right hand which he only throws when his poorly conditioned opponent is not able to respond with an attack of his own. Put him in with Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson, Bowe the best fighters from the previous era and he gets destroyed.

I wouldn't say Wlad is overrated at all.

In fact I'd say he's underrated because of the lack of quality opposition available to him.

You know it's a sorry state of affairs when people are calling someone like Haye a potential saviour of the division

 

Prime versions of Valuev and Ruiz were both beaten by Chagaev, who Wlad dominated. Toney was beaten on points by Sam Peter who Wlad has beaten twice.

Byrd, Chagaev, Ibragimov and Peter were better than the 3 fighters you listed (or at the very least as good as Valuev). Wlad beat all of them in their prime, except perhaps Chagaev who was arguably slightly past his best when they fought. Nevertheless, he was unbeaten when Wlad fought him (after Haye backed out, of course) and was badly beaten in one sided fashion

 

but as I mentioned there 3-4 fighters he could have faced and didn't.

 

I don't think he's overrated. He's been fighting the best guys around for the last 5 or 6 years, he's got probably the best record anybody could have in this era of HWs.

Compare his opposition to Haye's since Haye made the move the HW, the difference is laughable. And he's looked comfortable in all those fights.
