Why no questions about Frazier not giving Ali a rematch ?

he didn't train for that fight really.. clearly he didn't have the same bob and weave as he did against ali... and he definitely wasn't as fast or just in the same shape. I think he was partying before that fight too. He just didn't have the same fire that he did or the hunger he did for the title. For guys like Quarry, Stander, and daniels it wouldn't matter but he could never beat Foreman in that kind of condition

 

Frazier only at his Peak for three fights?

I'd say he was Peak from '68 Mathis to '71 Ali (8 fights).

Can you just imagine what would have happened if Floyd Patterson got that
deserved decision over Jimmy Ellis in Sweden.

Las Vegas would have put those 'Floyd Patterson Not Wanted Here' billboards back up.

I've thought about that; IMO he probably would have given Quarry the first shot and, if a winner, would have run into Joe at age 34.

Didn't Ali fight him again in 1972,,,,,,,what was Floyd, 38.

Imagine if Joe Frazier fought him then. Smokin Joe would have been crucified by Ali,
for picking on an old man.

A: Muhammad Ali is judged by a higher standard than any other boxer in history in terms of abilities in the ring, and behavior out of it.

 

I think everyone cut Ali some slack, because of the boxing exile and his
strong belief against the Vietnam war.
Good looking and well spoken, he presented a new perspective to the way we look at fighters.
Not just thugs, mob-connected or drug addicts.
He came along at the right time.

People had forgotten about Rocky Marciano.
Floyd Patterson was playing ping-pong with Ingo Johansson.
Sonny was too much of the blast from the past mob-connected reign of
the late-50's.
And the Heavyweight ranks were not of high-standards, except for
Ali.
Joe Frazier was just starting to pick up steam, but did not have the
charm or quick wit, until the Ali-Frazier fight.

1966 and 1967 for boxing was flat-out pathetic.

 

I disagree. There's hardly been anything written in the fight media about Ali avoiding the Foreman rematch, it's only come to light on ESB because one or two posters pointed it out, including me. Ali gets more free lunches than any other legend.

I'm referring to the boxing media in general, I grew up reading about the relatively easy reigns of Patterson/Holmes/Louis/Dempsey/insert name other than Ali here than Cassius himself. I'm not surprised there's some criticism on ESB, it hardly helps when there's threads like "Who is the toughest fighter ever" and four posts in someone says "Ali without doubt". :!:
