Why not Vitali/Chambers with Wlad sidelined?

    :good

Chambers makes a very good fight against Dimitrenko, he learned to back a big man up and to stay focused in the later rounds. Chambers has good upper movement, fast hands, good counter punches. Vitali on the other hand is a much better boxer and fighter than Dimitenko but Vitali is going to slow down, maybe Chambers has a chance to beat Vitali because Chambers had a better defence than Arreola. Chambers will not walk into the punches, he would avoid them and maybe had a chance against Vitali in the later rounds.

I like to see Chambers against Vitali more than Vitali against an unproven Johnson.

I like the way Eddie Chambers fights, he is a nice guy and a boxer with good skills and fast hands.

Chambers will make more money fighting Wlad. Plus he doesn't have to sign away options when fighting Wlad. He's a mandatory.

Anybody with half a brain would simply sit and wait for Wlad and not go for Vitali in this situation (Vitali = Tougher chin, less money, gotta sign rematch clauses).

    Again, I agree with everything.

This is a good post. Good to see someone who can look at both sides of the story.

As you said, Dimitrienko was not that good. However, you can pick an attribute from him (size) to show Chambers has a chance to get past the size of a Klitschko.

And true, who won't be walking into shots like Arreola did.

still not a great chance of Chambers beating either Klit decisively, but in terms of skillset and durability I'd say he has a better chance than haye, who is one of my favourite current fighters. He has a big punch but poor punch resistance, simple as that.

I am big Vitali fan and I agree that a fighter with very good defense is more difficult for Vitali than someone who goes for the knockout like Arreola. I just don't see how Chambers can do much offensively himself.

Maybe if Chambers signs up with Don King promotions he'll instantly shoot up the scale as #1 mandatory challenger. I sure don't see how he passes up the other names to vault to top spot. Hell, Suliaman still wants Maskaev to get a shot.

Most likely, Vitali gets stripped of the title for fighting a guy like Chambers instead of the recommended challenger the WBC approves. That's why fights don't happen anyway & then factor in promoter and television interests.

He can do a lot offensively against Vitali because he keeps his down and pot shots throwing arm punches. If Byrd can land his punches against Vitali than so can Chambers, and Chambers has a much better offense than Byrd. If Chambers fights Wladimir it would be much more difficult to close the distance against him.

I think Chambers like povetkin could do with another while to get ready so its in EC best interests to wait for Wlad

The problem is Chambers will have to wait until April to fight Wladimir. Chambers might as well fight Vitali and Wladimir should fight his other mandatory, Povetkin.

    Sure, why not.

Chambers could hope that VK tears his shoulder like the Byrd fight. The more likely outcome, though, is a Herbie Hide-style beatdown unless Chambers bikes for 12 rounds.

You don't need an analysis to see that Chambers would be just another victim for Vitali. Vitali said it in an interview recently and I think this is very true: Because of his weird style people always have (and still do) underestimated him. Some people never learn. They see every time how highly effective he is but still believe his style to be a weakness, when in fact his awkwardness is a major advantage he has going for him. Chambers' (relatively) fast hands (for a HW) just aren't enough to win more than 1-2 rounds at best against Vitali, and that's really all Chambers brings to the table. Nothing Chambers has shown suggests that he could trouble Vitali. Vitali has shown only one major weakness during his career, injury proneness, so there's a slight possibility Chambers might pull a Byrd but that's about as good as his chances get.

:patsch Thanks, this is the "silver bullet" of "what was I missing?" Sometimes forget how valuable it is to become a mandatory from the negotiating perspective.

Byrd landed half as many punches as Vitali in that fight and Vitali fought three rounds with one good arm. How will Chambers' punches reach Vitali? Dimitrenko gave up his height advantage, Vitali uses his to perfection and his reflexes seem to still be there. Do you think Chambers has the movement to outspeed Vitali's leaning back defense?

You don't realize that Chambers defensive is superb. Vitali can look great beating the crap out of guys like Arreola and Peter who are sluggers with no defensive technique other than the basics, but against a really skilled heavyweight like Chambers it would be a different outcome. Vitali won't land those punches on Chambers like he did against Arreola. If you knew Chambers, he really trains for a bout, he always studies his opponent, and believe he would study Vitali and fight his weakness to his style because he has the skills and the ability to beat him.

Wladimir on the other hand has few weakness and I would easily favor Wladimir over Chambers because of the stylistic matchup.

Chambers definitely has the movement to outspeed Vitali. Chambers has Mayweather caliber type defense which he showcased against Dimitrenko, although he employs a peek-a-boo stance, but his head movement and reflexes is just as good as Mayweather's.

If it's truly going to be that long, Chambers should consider a staybusy fight, as Povetkin is doing.

The points made about taking Wlad over Vitali due to the advantages of mandatory status make waiting for the Wlad fight the obvious option.
