newby johnson, If you don't like Roy either as a fighter or as a commentator, then that's fine. But if you're saying he's not bright, you clearly know nothing about the man. I've been a fan for years, and I've seen and read countless interviews over the years, and watched documentaries etc. Roy is extremely intelligent. If you were a fan, you'd know that. Look at how he handled his career. He never tied in with a promoter, he started his own promotional company, and he signed a great deal with HBO. He's always been his own man, and has done things his way, without being pressured by anyone. So you're way off the mark.
I miss Manny Stewart so much. He was in my opinion the best. Manny, Larry, and Jim was my favorite combo.
I am going to duck but I think Flores is the best active fighter commentator. He does a good job of being ego free and really kind of breaking it down a lot more than Ward or Jones does. Flores doesn't just talk to talk or spout nonsense. It is similar to the UFC problem in the best color guy by a mile is Mir but they are too tied to Rogan and then Florian (who is also superior to Rogan).
Yes, that was my favorite group (Steward, Lamps, Merch). Even though not liked, I also loved the Foreman, Lamps, Merch combo as Foreman and Merch had incredible chemistry (both in arguing and agreeing).
I don't like agendas on any type of boxing broadcast. With Ward, you can always tell who he is rooting for in a fight. Usually if it is someone he knows or trains with, the bias is unbearable to listen to. I was never a big fan of Jones as a fighter, but he is very smart and brings a lot of insight to the telecast and is usually spot-on in when it comes to his conclusions. HBO needs to get rid of Ward unless he wants to fight. For a guy who has only fought twice in the last two years, he gets way too many mentions on live boxing shows and on Jim Lampley's program.
