Why Vitali-Gomez will be more competetive than expected....

But Vitali uses his more effectively...Gomez squares up more often after about 7-8 rounds b/c of stamina problems in the past - so let's see if he could work this out...

 

He looked very flabby against Virchis. Needs to come in at around 220 IMO to stand a chance.

 

I saw him vs. McCall and he actually showed pretty good footwork if not excellent for a heavyweight - but just for about 8 rounds...and he weight a bit below 230 lbs...

I guess, he'll weigh in around 230 lbs and he'll be fine, being a bit more defined than in the past...

Vitali isn't a mover, especially now. A weak aspect of his game that has only been compromised by his injuries, knee brace and all.

He was so confident facing Peter after that long layoff because of how stationary Peter can be as well. Not like he needed to be mobile against a fighter like Peter regardless, what with his massive size advantage and Peter's limited aresenal.

Gomez, however, is capable of excellent movement.

Don't be suprised if an upset or something approaching it happens. Gomez might very well pick Vitali to death, and with Vitali's inability to be too terribly mobile at this time in his career that might spell trouble for him.

 

They put out a press picture last week and he's looking pretty ripped. Granted, he had his arms crossed in the picture, so no news on whether the spare tire's there.

 

I disagree. The fight has the potential to go over 7 or 8 rounds, like the Byrd fight.

Im on Gomez for a upset.

Kilt is old and maybe got cocky again after the Peter fight.

Gomez has wanted this fight bad for a while now, i cant see him not giving his all and really going for the win.

I got Gomez for the straight win @ $8.2 nice money imo.

Vitali does not get cocky, he prepares 1000% for every opponent. Gomez was his sparring partner for when Vitali was preparing for lefties. I spoke with Gomez in 04, he said he is "very good friends" with both Klitschkos and that Vitali hits hard with both hands. Should be an interesting duel though because Gomez is a winner, he has only lost once in about 17 years, and that time he was a lil flabby and got caught cold. Gomez will impress in defeat.

 

Who has Gomez fought at HW...???

Gomez was an EXCELLENT CW, and a pretty good as a HW contender, but seriously lacked dedication and proper training. I always felt that a 100% Gomez would be the one to give the biggest trouble to Vitali, and even this version is the most skilled contender out there. It's just hard to favor him in 2009. More competitive than expected, yes. But to see the 12th or pull the upset, well, only if Vitali's in bad shape IMO.

Gomez is no more skilled than any of the other contenders/gatekeepers that Vitali dominated and stopped.

Barring something like an injury or cut Gomez doesn't have a prayer.
