Why was George Foreman such a successful slugger?

Foreman was just so focused on the job at hand, with both the physical gifts and the armory required to complete it, he really represents one of the most effective fighting machines to ever enter professional boxing.

It wasn't just his size and power that were so menacing, either. Foreman's ability to track and force his quarry into the kill zone was as remarkable, as it was relentless.

Only a very rare caliber of fighter could live with a peak George Foreman.

Interesting point about Foreman fighting in an era where he was usually at a size advantage. Its true but at the same time he is the champion who crossed over into a future generation and was not only competitive butvwon the title back. Many heavyweights as big or bigger in the 90s. None as strong.

" he swung like a sissy " Ali
Young foreman deserved to get his arrogant head handed to him for swinging like an untutored girl
His horrific swinging and lousey stanima was apparent
Older foreman was far better technically but he was too old
Nevertheless he rarely fought rated fighters

You always doubt heavyweight fighters of the past. I guess you have Wilder stopping Foreman?

Styles make fights brother. What Foreman did, His " boxing ability " was designed to use his greatest assets his physicality. Like Prime Ali used his greatest assets that made him a great "boxer" his "Speed" .
Foreman would look foolish if he tried to fight like Ali, Ali would've look foolish trying to fight like Foreman. Foreman had a tremendous jab, just ask Cooney who's mouth piece was sent into the 2nd rowe by a Foreman jab. Foreman did not fight in the style of Ali or Holmes..... But he was a tremendous "BOXER" nevertheless. The sport is called "boxing" not slugging, brawling, defensive specialist etc.

That's a joke right? He may beat him now since he's damn near 70. Wilder wouldn't have beaten the 2nd version of Foreman. The 1st version of Foreman gets a murder charge.

Until winning the title he faced little quality opposition, Chuvalo being the best by a distance. His defences was alright, though. Roman was a gimme, but Norton and Ali were both top challengers. And in his comeback he faced Lyle, Frazier and Young - all top challengers.

So it was his way to the title that was curiously lacking in quality, but from then on one can't have any complaints.

Wrong. Watch this 19 year old version of George Foreman jab his way to a gold medal. He had a great jab without question as a young fighter.

Foreman's wins over Peralta were pretty impressive from the point of view that Peralta was one of the most experienced fighters in boxing at that point and had rarely been knocked out.

The 47-year-old fart landed an impressive 68% of his jabs against a 25-year-old Shannon 'The Can' Briggs.

According to Compubox, that's simply a historical fact.

He was only a fringe contender, never among the top.
