He was like a rubber neck weasel. He fought very strangly, but had great power and defencive antics that others could not expose. MAB fought like a mad man and threw punches from all angles and also threw punches up and down. Rough housing from MAB made the fight so much more exciting. I don't believe in all of the excuses of why Naz lost. He fought and clowned like he always did. MAB was on a mission and you had to kill MAB before he lost that fight. NAZ was a good fighter and did beat good comp so I will not trash him. PBF would have schooled him though. Then again, NAZ was at 126 and PBF at 130. I don't remember any talk of them fighting. Must of miss that.
Because the first time Hamed stepped up and fought a guy who was well rounded and not past his prime he lost to. Not saying Hamed wasnt any good but the guy made his career beating past their prime fighters or guys who wasnt any good, i.e Lawal. Mayweather was better than him in every department, except maybe for 1 punch power, but Mayweather would have rendered Hamed useless and i think he would have stopped the hobbit.
This shows a shocking lack of knowledge, at least when it comes to Hamed. A fighter he dominated and destroyed almost made it into the hall of fame last year and Hamed will make it in by next year- and for good reason. If boxing forums have taught me anything, it is very difficult for people to take their personal dislike out of the equation and appreciate good-great fighters for who and what they are.
But Hamed was past his prime when he fought MAB, he was an idiot for not taking the fight seriously, I honestly believe he felt he was unbeatable.
There was talk of Hamed facing Mayweather and Azumah Nelson earlier in his career. Hamed's response was "havent I gone up in weight enough?" Hamed was originally campaigning at 118 and 122, but went to featherweight when the title fight against Robinson materialized. Hamed was outsized in about all of his fights as he was only 5'3.
I don't understand when he was in his prime statement. He became champ in 1995 and was in trouble when he was first tested with Kelley in 1997. 2001 he looses to MAB. So he would beat PBF the night he beat Kelley for instance? You or Arran posted this. That a prime NAZ would beat MAB and PBF. I don't think so. NAZ was good, but MAB and PBF were better.
Past his prime?.....maybe. I think whilst he neglected his training to a certain degree, he never mastered the basics and when his speed and reflexes slowed down he became very average. I seriously think this is why he jacked after Calvo, he saw that he had slowed down and become beatable. He is a great fighter, but imo he was a great fighter who never beat a great opponent.
I think he retired because he had made like x-million and he was boo'd out of the arena after the Calvo fight. The fact that he blew up in weight after retiring tells me he never really had the heart to carry on after the money had rolled in, lets be fair he was britains richest boxer suppsoedly, he won the title at what? 21?
No shame in that. I can't stand when fighters are pressured to move up in weight so when they lose, "I know he was not that good" comments arise.
Very true. Im not hating on the guy, he was and still is like marmite imo. And i dont like the guy as a person he was a twat, as a boxer he was very good. But, i think the only time he fought a "live" opponent where the chips werent stacked in Hameds favour was against Barrera and he lost. But as you said his heart and fire had gone with a from what i saw a mixture of too much money and Barrera bringing him down apeg or too.
