Pryor was the best in the world while Hearns was far less developed and had NO power. He had about 6 stoppages in 155 fights or something in the amateurs before Steward taught him leverage and he filled out as well upon turning pro.

Hearns would have killed Pryor in the pro's. Pryor's best ever win was over a guy at the tail of his career and up 3 divisions from his first world title. A great win still but nothing to make one think he beats SRL, Duran and Hearns.

SRL and Pryor were actually signed - Ray was to have fought Staffords then Aaron before he retired due to his eye.

When Duran went thru the 140/147 region Pryor was no-where near a household commodity.

Hearns was already 154 by the time Pryor beat Arguello.

SRL has been explained, and he would have gladly fought the Hawk - big bucks against someone no-where near as dangerous as Hearns, Duran, Hagler and co.

Funny how people say why didn't they fight him but the legends of the welt and middleweights had enough guys to fight. As for legends they fought. Hearns fought Cueves,Leonard,Benitez,Duran,Hagler,Hill, and Pryor fought Arguello. 6 legends compared to one for Pryor. Hearns had enough legends to fight. Why didn't Pryor fight Mancini or Bramble? Rosario or Camacho? It is his fault he did not stick around long enough to fight them and build his resume, not the guys who were too high up in weight to fight him.

Duran was the only one in the position to fight Pryor in weight, although that would have been 1978-1981, but he fought Ray before Pryor won his title in 1980 at a higher weight. When did Duran sign to fight him? Pryor won this first title on the same day Hearns beat Cueves in 1980 on August 2. And Duran fought Ray in June of 1980, so when was this contract signed? I am asking because if it was after the Leonard one and two fights, then Duran would have had trouble making weight, then he would have lost to Pryor and made an excuse saying he was out of shape. Typical Duran excuse which he used with Leonard, Hearns and Benitez. That is why I ask.

I have to agree with this. A lot of people point to the amatuer fight of Hearns and Pryor as evidence of something, but I do not . Hearns was 17 and Pryor was 20 years old. And Hearns did nail Pryor with some big shots whith at professional rank would have stopped Pryor. Remember Pryor did not have a great chin or didn't seem to before Arguello. Then he fights Arguello and his chin stood up well, which is why people wondered that the mix was.

Leonard offered Pryor a fight but Pryor turned it down, unhappy with $500,000.
