Best thing against a South paw is a Right hand.(helps alot if you got power )

best thing against speed is a jab (just look at forrest vs mosely 1)

best thing against volume is straight down the middle punching.

Pavlik does all this belive me it won't last long for PW who will be ko'd in 5 or less

Williams has every punch, he has good technique, he just doesn't use it. It's the minor improvements he could make in sparring, like using his height, using angles, feinting, this is all he would need to knock out Pavlik. I think Paul Williams has genuine one punch knock out power, but I don't think he will knock out Pavlik with one punch. I think when he throws 1000 punches Pavliks corner will stop the fight.

The basic tricks were used by Taylor: feinting, counter-punching, catching you on the way in, jabbing and moving. Pavlik dealt with them. Pavlik hasn't got to be the man at 160 by accident. He does have some skills. You don't just beat someone like that with a few feints.

It took something very special from Hopkins to beat Kelly Pavlik - in fact, several special things: unpredictable movement; a solid defence; elite counter-punching ability; and, importantly, the ability to get Pavlik's respect. Williams has none of those things. He does not have the tools to do a boxing job on Kelly Pavlik.

And, again, the fact that people think Williams could stop Pavlik really just makes me a little ashamed to be a boxing fan. Williams was not even a massive puncher at 147, and doesn't land with any particular accuracy. But he's going to stop one of the most durable fighters around two weight divisions up? :patsch

Actually in Pavlik/Taylor II Pavlik's feints did more damage than Jermain's did. As soon has Kelly figured out Jermain was scared spitless of his right hand, he took full advantage of that. Right hand feint-left hook, repeatedly.

Paul Williams reach and work rate are his defense. Winky could not overcome it because of rust and age.

Indeed, Pavlik set up the KO against Taylor in the first fight with a feint-jab-straight right combo.

Whats funny is if you did a poll here on ESB and asked who was more skilled Margarito or Winky Wright, the vote would favor Winky all day long by a wide margin.

Then after you collected your poll data, and proved that Winky has the better skills.... You then come and ask why was it Margarito was able to do better with Williams and win more rounds with Williams than Winky Wright was able to:think

Then they are going to go into that ohh its a style thing, this that and the other, the truth is Margarito has skills, they are not "boxing hit and dont get hit skills" But the skills he does have Pressure, high work rate, heart, chin, and will, they do matter they do make a difference like it or not, and the proof is in the fight with Williams, how he was able to make it close and how Boxing hit and dont get hit:deal failed Winky

 The Pavlik fans are gonna end up like the Margarito fans were when Williams beat him.

you ever been in the ring?? its very hard to hit a guy that is throwing punches at you non-stop..

especially paul williams who is throwing 100 punches a round... very difficult to hit someone like that..

I really like Pavlik, especially since I grew up about 20 miles from youngstown. But I really think Williams output is going to confuse Pavlik. I don't think he will knock him out or stop him but I do think he could win a point decision on output alone..

So you seem to be suggesting that Williams is similar to Malignaggi in that he doesn't land much cleanly.

Williams landed less than 24% against Winky. Round 4 against Margarito he landed 20 out of 104. Margarito stood flat footed in front of Paul and slipped his jab. When Margo is slipping your jab, your speed and accuracy become suspect.
