Why wasn't Winky Wright able to capitalize on Williams horrible defense

Wright was an inactive fighter goin in. He was also coming off a loss at 170 and a draw with Taylor. He was not whta he was a few years ago and the rust was evident. Pavlik is not that guy, he has a workrate to match Williams and will be physically menacing as far as physical strength and a whole other level of punching power.

but it's unfair to say that every old fighter should be compared to bhop. Bhop is a freak of nature like foreman. Not everyone, and in fact most people, don't do well as they age

I'll disagree , Marg had him hurt arond the 10th-11th round of their fight. Maybe not seriously but enough to let you know someone can exploit it. Marg gave Williams hell. Pavlik fights in a similar fashion and is much bigger than Marg.

winky was not as sharp and paul put that pressure on him like no other.winky did good in the 2nd rd and that was it.bad matchup for wink anyways.i think pw can beat kp if he can stay away from the 1,2.and box like he did against margo.

he might be like the margo fight with pw winning the 1st and then kp coming back.but we will see what happens.im going pw ud or kp ko.

    Watch the fight again...

Margo never had him "on ***** street" as some revisionists like to claim... and he never had him stunned. He just caught him with some good shots in the 11th. But people keep forgetting what happemed in the 12th, when Williams came out and dominated.

I don't see Pavlick having the stamina that Margo has, although I could be wrong. And I think Paul's stamina will be actually better at 155-160 (whatever he ends up weighing) than it was at 147. And his power will be better as well, as that weight is very very close to his walk-around weight.

Margo made Paul do that little "double step" fighters do when they just lost their knees for a split second.

Margo stood flat footed in front of Paul and slipped his jab.

Paul landed less than 24% against Margarito.

He landed under 24% against Winky.

True, but even an older and semi-retired Winky is still a damn good win.

Margo loaded up on his shots big time against Williams because I think there was a belief in their camp that Paul couldn't take big punches while coming in at 147 looking like a fragile stickman. Apparently they were wrong as Williams is a freak of nature but a lot of those wild haymaker shots that hit him would have dropped most welters to be honest.

Pavlik could be in for the fight of his life unless he can hurt or drop Williams which could prove difficult if Paul uses a lot of lateral movement.

Pure volume. If you watch the fight again, there are points in between PW flurries where Winky's body language communicates he wants to punch (eyes lighting up, hesitant flinches/fienting) but is stopped by another PW flurry. Constant work rate stopped Winky

Not true. Paul never lost his "knees for a second"... Pure revisionist history, Boo.

And besides, that fight was two years ago, and I think anyone other than pure haters will agree that Paul has learned a lot since that fight.

Day before yesterday I watch the Margo, Phillips, and Wright fights back to back. The same fighter showed up every night.

And yes Margarito did hurt PW. So what! Paul took shots off him that would have ended most welters! Give credit where credit is do, but don't ignore the facts!
