I thought Whyte let himself down way before the fight by allowing his personal animosity towards Joshua become such a big thing. He put the pressure on himself by using his hate as a motivator. He'd probably have performed better if he had coolled off a bit. As for Joshua, I don't find him particularly nice and it baffles me why he's so popular with the fans and pundits. He's a good fighter and a big puncher, I get that. But his sadistic smirking, arrogance and lack of respect for opponents isn't usually what gets the fans behind him. Contrast with Fury, who even now the press want to bash and criticize and ignore his achievements, it's strange that Joshua is being built up as a golden boy saviour.
I see where your coming from but on the whole I think people would rather a fighter paid their opponent no respect in the ring and respected them out of it, like joshua, rather than the other way round, like fury.
True. But does Joshua do that ? He seems to just want to talk about himself. At least Fury does all that in a jesting way, but I understand if some people just don't like him. As he's the real champion of the world now, you could say he's backed it all up now. Yeah, Fury probably needs a couple more old style exciting fights like he used to have, but he's a smart boxer it seems.
Notice too how he was immediately ushered away and the emotional interview with his dad was mysteriously cut short.
