Joshua fought and beat Klitschko, Whyte, Povetkin, Parker, Breazeale, Takam and Molina before Wilder had beaten Owen Beck. At the time, Wilder's best opponent was Owen Beck.
There’s an argument as to whether or not it’s fair, but the public are already getting on AJ’ s arse about not fighting Wilder or Fury. Yes, he won’t be sleeping in the bus shelter anytime soon, but AJ fighting anybody other then Wilder or Fury results in his money going down or staying the same at best. Leading up to the Povetkin fight, even Eddie admitted in an article (I think it was for the Guardian) that people were saying to him that they would pass on that fight and wait for Wilder instead and it showed as ticket sales were down and I bet the PPV no’s took a dive also especially following the boring Parker fight. Only Tony Hayers and maybe 1 or 2 others on here wouldn’t admit that Eddie and AJ are currently under immense pressure. Wilder, Fury and even Whyte are putting the squeeze on him. Dillian made a mockery of Eddie over the Pac weekend in the states letting all kinds of information out of the bag. If we stick with Wilder for a second in the space of about s year, he’s gone from being told by Hearn that “nobody knows you...you must beat Whyte to get AJ...here’s a $5m contract” that soon changed to “Here’s $12.5m, then $15m come to Wembley” now Hearn said he can have 40%...they’ve got Eddie by the knackers as I guarantee in the near future Eddie will concede that the fight will have to be in Vegas/US as it’s not feasible to have it hear anymore- I can see it coming a mile off..I will bring this post back up when I’m proven right. I’m not AJs accountant, but I don’t believe for a second that he made anywhere near 50m for fighting Parker and Povetkin- that is just pie in the sky lMO. The talk about the fight not being on Sky is also nonsense. If they put out the UK rights to tender like they did for Pac-Connor there would only be 1 winner and that’s sky. I agree the DAZN thing is a different matter- Hearn is truly in a mess with them but that’s a different thread. Finally, AJ will have enough clout to have an equal say with the fight arrangements - the same things you say about dodgy judges applies very much to the UK. Even with the Wilder rematch, Warren has made a point of saying that he is demanding neutral judges etc - there’s no reason why Matchroom should not be able to hold there own for a fight of this magnitude.
I think people need to be careful with the idea that Joshua is somehow turning into a guy the public don't want to watch or that Matchroom are suddenly under immense pressure to deliver a big fight. You have to remember that his fight against Povetkin still did 1.1m UK PPV buys, which is about the same as Hatton Mayweather and Haye Klitschko. He's still self evidently immensely popular.
As soon as AJ walks out into the next arena and does his stuff then all this negative vibe with him will stop. He’s done what he needs to to get where he is and why should he throw it all away unless he gets what he wants purse wise? Both Fury and Wilder would do exactly the same! We will get the fight we all want soon as it has to happen but it’s got to be right for all parties. Just my view...
Do you think twice a year is too little for a top fighter? Including the fight where they won a world title, Wilder has had nine fights in, to date, pretty much bang on four years. Joshua has had seven in two years nine months. And Fury has had four in three years two months. Just to contrast, in his entire career from the point he fought for a world title, Lennox Lewis had twenty-two fights in ten years and one month. If Lewis can have the legacy he has averaging only slightly over two fights a year, (and remember, that includes four non-title fights) If Joshua fights twice a year for the next seven years he'll end up with the same number of fights over the same time frame as a guy largely recognised as one of the best ever. Now, he needs to fight the best he can, but if Lewis can walk away having never fought Bowe and waiting until Tyson and Holyfield were 35 and 36 before he fought them, surely there's a case to be made that Joshua isn't in too much danger at the minute of wrecking whatever his legacy may become?
Yes with the dim casuals who have latched onto him as if he is some kind of humble hero which he certainly isn`t.
‘You can’t tell a man he has no value, then when he goes off to create his own, spout on about how he won’t take your fight now’ http://locfoundation.org/news-events Brilliant article by Lewis.
What value has Wilder created? Not much as far as I can see. Has his profile been boosted? Yes. But what is he now best known for? Without question getting a gift after a poor performance against Fury.
Makes sense? Miller drew with Joey Dawejko. Dawejko is 5ft 10 and fat. Surely he'd be less dangerous for Joshua.
Hearn seems to think he has created value hence offering him 40% of the split. Wilder isn’t really about the ‘performance’ is he, he’s about the knockouts. He’s put almost everyone on the canvas including Fury and Ortiz and that brings value to a fight in terms of making it an attraction.
