Other opponent's of Fury haven't been nearly as unwilling to throw as Wilder was. And how many hard shots was Wilder throwing i say the first 2 rounds against Washington? This content is protected
Hah! Washington was a 6-6, 83", 240 pound AGILE, fast twitch, balanced fighter who Deontay observed, figured out and let his hands go when the time was correct. Again, watch the last seconds of the fight and observe that my comments were spot on. How long would rum soaked Bill Brennan or wee Tommy Gibbons last against this Wilder?
I am kind of curious what you think all the fast twitch people were doing before any of them thought to become athletes. Seems like they'd be likely to become athletes in any era. Washington certainly didn't look especially agile against the slow, overweight Kownacki This content is protected
Truth is neither Washington nor Wilder know how to FIGHT. Washington looks physically great and Wilder can punch with his right hand but that does not mean in any way that either man has boxing skill. They have not bothered to learn the very basics of the sport. In a world where we have so many potential champions and so many top ten challengers why bother?
Seamus, I've seen you argue this point about fighters being "out-athleted" a few times and I'm curious as to what informs your viewpoint that this is a thing that happens regularly in the ring. I'm interested because both from my (limited) experience in the ring and from watching fights I have come to the conviction that boxing is not primarily an athletic contest and that - although athletic features can certainly be a factor - generally experience, ring craft, game plan and stylistic matchups are far more crucial in deciding the winner. I would also like to know what makes you think that Wilder would get to Dempsey first, as the latter is generally considered the quicker, more accurate and tighter puncher. Just to be clear I'm a huge Dempsey fanboy so I'm picking him, but I agree with you that his occasional recklessness could be dangerous for him in this matchup. Wilder certainly has the potential to land something big and unexpected here and close the show early.
A Lazy fighter from today use to all the easy things handed to them, and cell phones, train when they want, do what they want, have water brought to them when thirsty, when hungry have everything served to them. Not really considered as Professional of a fighter as the older guys like Dempsey who trained year round when in Prime and early in careers, had nothing handed to them until maybe they won a title, no luxuries of today, constantly training hard, a real professional, no way Wilder, Ruiz, Joshua, take them all, none wins this one, Dempsey may beat them to death in the Ring if not stopped quick enough.
I don't see Wilder taking years off his prime to work on Broadway and refusing to fight black fighters. Go back to your hole.
Wilder wants you out at range where he can line you up for his right hand. Everything he throws is long and often sloppy, if he misses with a big shot he is often off balance, unable to throw another follow up punch, or be in a position to defend himself properly. If he connects right it can be lights out for anyone he tags, but he is not an accurate puncher and gets over-exited when he has an opponent on ***** street. Dempsey wanted to be in close, ripping shots to the gut ,under the heart and then up to the chin. Wilder looks good against slow statues like Breazeale, who have no head movement or defence and are basically just big strong guys who possess only the most rudimentary of boxing skill,if that. Dempsey had great foot speed into range ,he was mobile and panther -like in his movement ,he hit concussively with both hands Jack's lack of great height and his excellent head movement would throw Wilder off ,that bob and weave would mean Wilder would find it very hard to tag him with those long right hands. I see Dempsey getting inside and breaking the stringbean Wilder down with a body attack and eventually finding his chin with a salvo of shots.Wilder hits like a train but Dempsey was never more dangerous than when hurt. Dempsey has the better attack with Wilder obviously being terribly dangerous at all times. Jack was proven "in the fire ",Wilder has ,for the most part fought a succession of nobodies. Most wont agree with me, but I see Dempsey knocking chicken legs out!
