At 19 seconds and 39 seconds Wilder misses badly and hits Breland's fingers. You can see the pain shoot through his body. They call them focus pads for a reason. I rather a guy take his time and get better at being more accurate rather than being way of the mark. Wilder can punch really well and his grasp of the fundamentals of punching mechanics is the best out of all of the top heavyweights, but his timing and punch accuracy on the other hand leave a lot to be desired. If his punching accuracy and timing were better he would've ended Ortiz in half the time, but Wilder has a habit of over punching. A master of the trade like Breland knows it, but won't say anything, since he makes his living off of Wilder. Here is how you are supposed to connect on the pads. This content is protected Also, I've seen plenty of pros get chewed out for missing on the pads. More affluent trainers than Breland like Roach or the Mayweather brothers would've checked Wilder and greats like Manny Steward or Futch definitely would've lost their sh*t at Wilder.
Of course Wilder's technique is garbage that's why he struggles to land so much too. Doesn't surprise me that he misses on the pads. Heavyweight boxing in general is a wasteland when it comes to good technique though.
I would think wilder knows you have to hit the centre of the pads (they are marked in the centre for a start). It wouldnt suprise me if the guy saw the damage he was doing hitting off target, probably got his crew hyped to see someone holding tap out, and then set about trying to hurt as many as possible the guy is a clown, its a headline grabber. Its shows pure disrespect that this has happend more than once, he made it happen imo.
I havent seen it tbh anything i watch of wilder is purely accidental lol. The guy is a joke champion, if he wasnt so dumb he would surely be embarassed of himself.
This is nearly as good as 'shades of Ali'. "My fighters so strong, everybody in camp needs a medical emergency.... oh yeah?... well.... my fighters so fast... in camp... we can even see him... he Mr Invisible!"... theyll start telling yo mama jokes next to hype this snoozefest of a fight.
9 times out of 10 when Trainers are injured or hurt working pads it's because the punches thrown were not accurate, not in the centre on the pad. I'm not surprised Wilders trainer/other who work pads with him suffer damage, Wilder is wild and loose with his shots. I'm not knocking him, it's working, he keeps winning and keeps knocking people out but even the biggest Wilder fan has to admit Wilders technique is poor at the best of times. On a side note, I know a few trainers (amateur) who have really bad wrists, elbows and shoulder problems because of pad work, a couple already have arthritis and I know one who will end up having surgery.
