Nah, thats giving Gomez far too much credit & Morales far too little at the same time.

The first Morales-Barrera fight could have gone either way, fights like that are not gifts IMO... harsh on the loser, yes of course... but not undeserving to the winner.

Morales fought Ayala at 126 lbs & he never fought Tapia in his career, Barrera did beat Tapia at 126 lbs tho around the same time Morales beat Ayala in 2002.

love my aztec warrior but Gomez in his prime was an absolute beast! 15 rounds goes to Gomez via KO. a 12 rounder goes to Morales via split D

Early on, I would just blurt out that Gomez blows him away.

Seeing what Morales was actually made of changed my opinion a bit.

Gomez would win by 15 round decision. And Morales having moments of his own.

I agree with the other opinion that Morales has bomb proof chin. And he also packed a dynamite at 122. He'd get Gomez respect but might be out manouvered as Gomez is a smooth boxer himself.

Unless of course, that Gomez shows up out of shape which is another story altogether.

    Gomez by decision at 122.

Morales was more effective at higher weights, but at Bazooka's versatility (when he wanted to, he could box and counter-punch as well as anyone) and power (he was capable of hurting anyone who has ever fought at the weight- with either hand) would be enough to keep El Terrible from really asserting himself in the fight. Plus, Bazooka carried his power into the later stages of the fight (see Cruz and Pintor as examples of that).

That said, I can see Erik being able to hang in there to the bitter end, fighting like hell every step of the way.

Chava stopped Azumah in one of the greatest feather fights in recent times.Azumah stopped Gomez. That fight was definitely NOT a fluke.
