I feel the same way but their excuses were safety especially after the televised tragedy of the Mancini vs Duk Koo Kim bout on Nov 13 1982, The boxing organizations stated that shortening the title bouts to 12 rounds should cut down on ring fatalities, yet no proof of this as with 12 round bouts resulting in the same amount of ring deaths have happened.

I see your point which I respect but really think about it. The same amount of ring injuries and deaths have happened with the 12 round limit as the same as 15 round title bouts, it has to do with the televised bout with Mancini vs Kim on Nov 13 1982. But with the 12 round limit in place, such as Benn vs McClellan and several others including Adonis Stevenson's last title bout, many were injured or tragically killed. With immediate Safety Measures in place, with the increased 3 rounds, that might not happen. Boxing is a tough sport, yet many are willing to face the hazards as in many occupations. It is for the money.

This talk of shortening the rounds to 2 minutes is nonsense. We're talking professional boxing here not amateurs. You'd end up with 30 minutes of fighting...thats 6 minutes less than a regular 12 round fight...TERRIBLE idea and for Christ sake don't let the dudes making commercials hear about this thread.

That's a good idea not to, I did not think of the companies and their television commercials.

The thing about the Mancini-Kim fight that most ignored was not the scheduled distance of the fight but why was said fighter fighting for the title at all? Du Ku Kim - God rest him - was nothing but a face-first clubfighter with a giant heart. Back in the 70s and 80s the WBA were lining up South Koreans for title shots calling them their #1 contender when they had no business near a world class fighter. Kim was 17-1-1 going into that title fight and if you peruse his record, try to find a recognizable name. Only because I was an addict then as I am now, I did recognize the name Kim Kwang Min and that's because he too was shoved into a world title fight (probably as their #1 contender) against Antonio Cervantes, no less. Do we see a pattern here? I'm not letting the WBC off the hook here either. They had very tight ties with Mexican fighters (or should I say promoters) and back when they reduced title bouts from 15 to 12 they matched Albert Davila against their #1 contender Kiko Bejines. Now, unlike those aforementioned Koreans, Bejines actually could fight. However, he hadn't fought in a year and that was a loss. How was he their top contender fighting for the vacant title? Accidents do happen, but the 15 round distance doesn't kill. Bad, undeserving, underprepared matches is what kills.

No, but they should because 15 rounds tell the real story about what a fighter is made of. That's when real champions are made.

Never. 15 rounds were like Iron Man competitions. Too many boxers died from these long grueling fights. Kim Duk-Koo vs Mancini was the last straw. Not every boxer's built for it. Today's fighters would get seriously help, just because the difference in mentality.

This is why I appreciate the greats of the past like Sal Sanchez, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Henry Armstrong, and more.
