No -- Green will pick up right where JT left off. He'll go into his fight with Ward with zero points the same as he would if he had lost to AA.

In my opinion this system could create real problems. What if Kessler and/or Dirrell lose next time out? If Kessler loses to Froch, he'll probably retire. If Dirrell loses to Abraham, his team should pull him out because he should never have been in it to begin with. No decent fighter would agree to go into the 3rd round with zero points. It would be nearly impossible to find yet another replacement.

I always thought this was a mess, they should've just left it at super five

Not only that, but even if they could find a replacement he would have no chance of progressing since he would inherit 2 losses, who would enter a tournament they can't win?

Because he gets two high profile fights and almost certainly the biggest paydays by far in his career.

Say he Ko's the overrated Ward and loses on points in a slugfest with Kessler, then even though he's probaably out of the tournament, he's all of a sudden a major player in the division with more big paydays to come

Flawless post. No holes in it at all. Makes perfect sense. I agree with every word.

Good assessment. Though it appears that stage 2 is set and will take place as schedulled, there's still a pretty damn good chance that stage 3 won't happen at all. I don't want to say too much, but from what I've heard through the grapevine, things are not going to go as planned, regardless of what happens in stage 2. Your theory adds to that, and makes it even more likely. Still, they have it mathematically set up so that any fighter going into the final stage with 0 points is not eliminated and can still advance by winning their fight in the final stage. They did a good job of planning everything out in a way that keeps all fighters interested in completing all of their schedulled fights, but it may not be enough.

Not so sure about Kessler retiring if he loses. He might, for pride's sake, but he could lose to Froch and still advance with a win vs Allen Green in his 3rd fight. I guess a lot would depend on the manner in which he lost and whether Dirrell wins or loses vs AA.

As for Dirrell, I bet he continues even if he loses. (unless an AA bomb unglues him.) His next fight would be Ward with (I presume)Ward's title on the line, presuming Ward beats Green. Where else could he get that with 2 consecutive losses?

The Super 6 tourney is in a tenuous position, because of all the moving parts required, but I hope it works. I'd like to see more of the same from boxing in the future. Look at the rivalries it has created, and the attention it has garnered to the somewhat obscure SMW division.

Green will have to knock Ward out to get a split decision, it's in Ward's home town once again!

Should have signed another two fighters originally, so Green then one other and kept it simple with winner vs winner till one man was left rather than the super six.

Seems slightly ridiculous Dirrell could lost two straight, beat Ward and win the title, yet not have enough points to reach the semi final.

Agreed, and I really hope that David Fanning is wrong and that Stage 3 goes through, even tho I see his point, and I can see how it would unravel.

On the topic of Green, no I don't think he'll advance. I think he'll have at 2 L's provided the tournament finishes out.

I think they could have done a much better job securing contracts, venues, and terms on this whole thing, because it's such a fantastic idea, it's just suffering from a few kinks that could be ironed out...

I think his best chances of winning are Derrel, Froch and Kessler those might be 50-50. I don't like his chances against Ward or Abraham.
