What a stupid ****in' post. No, Pac's going after Wlad and Vitlay next week because size means ****.... It's a combinatin of size and ability that matters. Oscars size didn't compensate for his lack of (current) ability.
Of course they will. Before this fight there were countless examples of fighters overcoming size, but nobody accepted it. It will probably be the same in the future, as the obsession with size continues.
Before the fight everyone was totally writing Pac off because "Oscar is too big". Clearly Pac was the better fighter at the time, the only question mark was over his ability to take a punch at 147. And because of that, Pac was given no hope by most. Size isn't everything within reason, you can't bring up Wlad.
Well then where do you draw the line? It's all relative. Pac could probably beat some club level heavyweights. Some shitty light heavies. Some not so good middles etc.
Or that Manny is that good combined with Oscar being older and possibly drained. The amazing thing is HOW he did what he did. His dominance over DLH blows away Mayweather's dubious split decision marginal action fight.
I don't know where the line should be drawn. But the line is further from where people seemed to draw it before this fight. A great smaller fighter will generally be competitive on the world stage a long way from their natural weight, as history has shown. The key word is competitive though, because a much bigger fighter who is deemed to have just as much ability should win. Of course, styles are also a major factor. Anyway, the line should be drawn differently in different situations for different fighters.
The size issue doesn't go away because of this fight, it just makes Manny Pacquiao that much more of a beast. I think about the Cotto-Margarito fight and if Cotto could have strung together some more rounds like he did in the first half of the fight, I think he could have won. But he got worn down by the bigger man with heavy hands and just didn't have the stamina and wherewithal to keep boxing.
Well of course the smaller man isn't going to win every time. It's just another example of size being an obstacle that can be overcome, it's not as important as everyone makes out.
There are major differences between an old DLH and a prime Margarito. For starters, DLH made a career of freezing when being hit. He simply doesn't move forward well when getting punched in the face. Margarito does. There were dozens of times Cotto landed flush punches to Margarito's face, only to eat a bodyshot immediately after. That is how Margarito rolls. Secondly, Margarito has the endurance and the pain tolerance do attack like that for 12 rounds. Plus, DLH pretty much destroyed the only advantage he had by coming in 147 on fight night, completely drained. I am happy Pacquiao won but lets not kid ourselves here. Margarito would steamroll the guy. He wouldn't stop throwing punches even if Pacquiao punched him a hundred times. He wouldn't slow down long enough for Pacquiao to gain composure and he wouldn't give up. It'd be 12 rounds of the worst kind of hell Pacquiao would see, if he managed to make it that far. Mayweather knew. Just know that. Mayweather ran his ass as far away from Margarito as he could get.
That's a fair point. I have no illusions about what would happen if Pacquiao fought Margarito, and obviously neither does Roach. I made the Margarito-Cotto connection because for part of that fight the smaller Cotto was outboxing and outscoring him. But that didn't last clearly
I'm not too sure about that, and fearful that this could start a precedent of fighters jumping multiple divisions to make fights. This would scarcely be a sound idea. What happened Manny Vrs DLH would not be repeated very often. More often the bigger guy would win and there is always a chance of someone getting really hurt. Last night was a very strange phenominon - and could happen because DLH turned out to be a a very weak Welter.
