That's a plausible scenario, albeit, one I don't believe will pan out. But still, certainly in the realm of possibility.

Didn't everyone ***** about Hopkins fighting smaller men???

Beating RJJ is useless, he is shot.
Beating Wright is useless, Hopkins did it, and HE IS SMALLER THAN JC
Beating Taylor is useless as of now, Pavlik is the man at 160.
Beating Pavlik would boost JC, but does anyone think Pavlik is great?

JC spent his whole career fighting no names in Europe, and this is what happened. Sometimes you get stuck with a bad division...RJJ has that at 175 for a period of time.

However, JC's lack of effort to MOVE IN WEIGHT, or actively seek out BIG FIGHTS against HOF-caliber fighters has cost him dearly.

    AS I'VE SAID COUNTLESS TIMES...

PBF dominated from 130-154 against many recognized world champions, some HOFers (or probables), etc.

JC dominated at 168 which has been a soft division since Jones and Toney left, against mostly unknown fighters.

UNTIL PBF LOSES, HE IS THE P4P KING.

Yup. He was just unfortunate to fight in Floyd Mayweather's era. Otherwise, he would be P4P #1.

Soooooo, since JC beat Kessler, and IF he beat a 43 year old Hopkins, that would put him above a 5 division World Champ who is undefeated and in his prime???

So how Can u say a fighter who will take months and months off after a hatton fight is deserved to be #1 when Joe Calzaghe will be fighting Legends of the sport in those months

Look at all the boxers who are Calling Calzaghe out

    Hopkins ,
    Wright ,
    Taylor ,
    RJJ

SOme of the greatest boxers of our time

Ummm...he hasn't fought any of them yet.

    and here's what's more important.

    1) HOPKINS IS 43 AND OUT OF HIS PRIME WEIGHT.
    2) Wright on the decline and to fight JC would be 15 lbs. out of his prime weight.
    3) I don't know where you are from...butttttt, Taylor isn't one of the "greatest boxers of our time" or a "legend"...not even close.
    4) RJJ is shot completely, and Calzaghe would still have to actually BEAT him.

    So think about it...

thought about it , n yea i still believe that an active fighter of that year fighting those sort of names should be named #1 P4P , not an inactive fighter for months and months on end, and yes there is flaws in those boxers but if you think about it how good will a name of rjj or hopkins look when thinking of the P4P list

Calzaghe fought twice in 07, twice in 06, twice in 05, and twice in 04...

So assuming he fights RJJ and beats him in 08, you think that puts him above Mayweather if Mayweather doesn't fight in 08? Mayweather just beat DLH and Hatton. Calzaghe just beat Peter Manfredo and Kessler.

How does a win against RJJ make up ground against PBF???

It's not a "how often do you fight contest", it's a "WHO IS THE BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD" contest.

EVEN IF FLOYD TOOK 2008 OFF, HE WOULD STILL BE THE BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD...isn't that obvious?

hmmm...other than what will be your obvious answer (BHOP), who ran from JC? Do you have proof of JC seeking out numerous top fighters who all refused to fight him???

    Or, are you just talking?

You can't say that if a fighter takes a year off they get to retain their position - if it were that way, then why not two years.. hell, let's make it five years.

If Joe gets a couple of big names/wins under his belt, and PBF takes a year out, then Joe moves to #1.

You're list definition should read: "Who is the best active fighter in the world". A year away is stretching the word "active" to it's limits (or beyond).
