Love it, where was the 3rd title?? 35?? :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl BS!!! He was Ring Champ and fought for the vacant and re-instated Ring Belt. Ring does NOT = LINEAL:nono Pernell Whitaker was the last 135 lb Lineal Champ:good Go ahead keep squirming homeboy, you'll sink in the sand FASTER
Corrales was the reigning, undefeated IBF 130lb titleholder when he fought PBF. Mayweather was the reiging WBC titleholder. It doesn't matter that the IBF, in its infinate wisdom, chose not to recognize the winner as its champion...when the two top belt-holders in the class fight, that represents, to me, a unification bout. (For that matter, I considered Hearns-Duran to be a unification bout at 154lbs, and there have been other cases when that's happened, too. Always hated that about the sanctioning bodies. But, I digress...) Anyway...I agree about the situation being a mess, but, by and large, that situation would be better addressed by recognizing fewer sanctioning bodies, rather than an increased number. And, while I would very much like to see PBF fight Cintron or Williams (provided the Cotto/Mosley winner doesn't get the next shot), the fact remains...PBF defeated the reigning champion to win the title at 147lbs. And...until someone beats him at the weight, they can't claim to be the champ. (If Hatton is able to defeat Floyd, I'll say the same thing about him, too.)
All due respect but Casa helfd the BA in 6/99,which is technically included. Freitas won the BO in 4/99. They were there, Champions and viable opponents. As I pointed out, if PBF had been able to handle Spadafora in 12/99?? No Chico, at least not at 130:nono BTW, Corrales was down and out, and on his way to jail when that happened. Thats not an excuse(I believe PBF beats him every time) but rather an indication of Floyd's penchant for fighting guys at weak points. Funny thing is? As soon as Spadafora hit a drug and alcohol induced REHAB?? Here's comes Floyds offer, almost 3 years later In the end? Maybe Floyd's superman, maybe he's not, there's only 1 way to find out and if he tries the usual routine at 47?? He's never going to get the respect his fans feel "he deserves":good
I'll take this one point at a time... Casa won the official WBA title against Baek in May 2000. The fight that really solidified his status as a force at 130lbs was against Garcia. But, that fight occurred all of two weeks before Mayweather-Corrales. Would have been nice to see Casa and Floyd go at it, but he wasn't considered anything more than the #3 guy in the division at the time. Frietas does win the WBO title (a pretty spurious title, I might add), with an admittedly scary KO of Alexandrov (summer of '99), and he was in the process of making a name for himself against some pretty solid second-tier opponents (Jauregui and Jones). So, yeah, I'll grant that he would have been a legitimate test. But, he was still largely unknown...and, to an extant, untested against the higher levels of 130lb opposition, so, he wasn't at the same level as Corrales. Speaking of Corrales...and without discounting the impact his legal troubles may have had...he was still considered the greatest threat going into the fight with Floyd. he'd just obliterated Manfredy (which had been preceded by impressive victories over the likes Garcia and Gainer). He looked to be in good form in these fights, and a lot of experts were picking him to defeat PBF (legal issues or no). As for Spaddy, I wouldn't have minded seeing him fight Floyd. But, it didn't happen because a) Spadafora got sliced up in his fight with Dorin (who really should have gotten more than a draw), and b) he kept ****ing up his life before he the fight could be made. So, yeah...I guess there are a couple of names missing on Floyd's resume. I also guess that there were mitigating factors that surrounded his victory over Chico (I'm sure some haters would find those factors in some of his other fights, too). But, y'know...I'm pretty sure if we examine the resumes of great fighters, we'll find that the same could be said of them, to some extant. Why isn't Aaron Pryor's name on Leonard's resume? Or Burley's name on Robinson's? That's not to suggest that those fighters ducked the fighters listed, or that they couldn't have beaten them. That's ALSO not to suggest-in any way-that I consider PBF to be anywhere near the level of Leonard, or Robinson. But it does illustrate the fact that even the best fighters can sometimes miss a name or two. Best we can do is to look at what Mayweather's accomplished. And, what he's accomplished really ain't too shabby, all things considered. If he beats Hatton, and fights a couple more legitimate guys, then that's even better. Either way, the guy deserves some credit...and some respect.:good
Are you suggesting that unification is a greater challenge than MOVING up in weight to fight a bigger champ? Floyd never cares for anything else other WBC. Same as many other fighters like Oscar, Julio Chavez, Castillo, and other old school fighters. WBC have the best fleet of fighters and most history behind it. Floyd's resume is good enough to have that benefit of the doubt that he could HANDLE Frietas, Casamayor, Margarito and Kostya Tysu. Why is everyone so set in stone that HE IS THE ONE WHO IS DOING THE DUCKING and not the other way around. Is There any of his opponents that the haters suggested even have a comparable resume? The guy established himself already and looking for big names and pay. HELL NO.
Spadafora is a freaking sparring match. Sparring Parnters surprises the star plenty of times. Who cares? he was hired TO SPAR. Floyd was the one pushing his body to train Not Spadafora. Get that to your head. I could go in the gym and do a good job against someone who just got done doing 15 rounds. You are an idiot.
He was Interim Champ since 6/99 and since it became official? He gets credit to 6/99 in my book. My point he was a titlelist and undefeated at 30. You dont make assumptions, you make fights. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, maybe, we'll never know. I dont discredit him for beating Chico. Yet, 1 of 4 Champs does not a statement make:nono G. Hernandez was the last fight of a 14 year career and had NONE of the impact it would have vs a younger GH. My problem is PBF flat out ducked an "inferior" fighter. Spat beat Floyd in the gym, offered him a shot at HIS 35 Belt, and Floyd did nothing but stall and make excuses for 3 years until REHAB. That's absolute garbage for what some consider the P4P king. Maybe this, maybe that, what I do know is it should have happened, but Floyd knows what did happen wasnt in his favor. I find that the names missing at every division are among the best opponents available and its inexcusable for such a "legend". I'm not saying you cant find holes in others, but NOT AT EVERY WEIGHT CLASS:nono Aside from that? Pryor, Leonard, SRR, etc. are true ATG's because they made the fights. If Floyd had just one? I'd hear you're point, but the sound of floyds cherry picking is overwhelming. Best we can do is to look at what Mayweather's accomplished. And, what he's accomplished really ain't too shabby, all things considered. If he beats Hatton, and fights a couple more legitimate guys, then that's even better. I've never said he doesnt deserve respect as a great boxer, but he IS NOT the legend they wanna build him to be UNTIL HE DOES WHAT LEGENDS HAVE ALWAYS done. BTw, congrats for keeping things civil, even if we dont agree in full. [/quote] :good :good :good :good :good :good :good :good :good :good
I don't much care for him. He strikes me as a ****-witted idiot outside the ring. Inside the ring I respect his skills and performance. He is the best boxer currently active and one of the 6 most naturally gifted boxers of the last 50 years.
It appeared on ""talk back before Bruseles. I'm not a member and cant link, yet that doesnt mean it didnt happen and BTW, it's been talked about on multiple sites in the past. How do I know?? Well said site had some interest in getting the Spat vs PBF vid. Of course, ESB got it rather than them, because I like ESB. Believe it and like it or not.....it happened:good
Who gives two shits if Floyd likes the BC, they are all corrupt. Moving up?? If Floyd moved up to 54 to fight Spinks instead of the SSM vs Cotto winner, you consider that better or more meaningful?? :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl As for the rest?? Man you dont prove **** with assumption:nono Lamotta, Douglas, etc, etc, etc. Stop the nonsense. When you think you're ATG or GOAT you better back it up, BEAT THE BEST or STFU:good
You've just SHOWN YOU're ASS:good Spadafora hired???:rofl :rofl :rofl Newsflash GENIUS, no one was paid, Floyd came into Spadafora's training camp while Spadafora was training for his first defense, talking mad ****, and testing the water at 35. Since Floyd talked his talk?? Spadafora showed him TALK IS CHEAP:yep NOW, kindly shut the **** UP, since WE KNOW YOU DONT KNOW what you're talking about:good Go You tube and ENJOY.
