And no, I don't he'll ever go toe to toe again, unless he is forced to which is unlikely. The guys at 140-147 are much stronger than the guys he would go toe to toe with in the lower divisions. There is just too much risk for him to do so now.
No need to go toe to toe when you can outbox your opponent instead and take less damage and still win. With that said he has gone toe to toe in many fights and is good at doing it.
He doesn't have to. If going toe to toe is part of a fighters style then by all means do that. But if using defensive skills, and counterpunching are available then there's nothing wrong with that. All these people bashing him for not slugging it out are dumbasses who dont appreciate the sport.
Mayweather has mastered the art of boxing, to hit - without getting hit, why would he want a slug fest? That just gives an opponent with less talent, a chance to beat Floyd, why give someone a chance, why get hit when you dont have to? If Floyd was in a war, at least he has a one hell of a defence to keep him from losing that war, Mayweathers reflexes and boxing skills would still leave him better off than most in a slug fest IMO. Pac has a lot of ingredients to worry someone like Floyd, I eagerly await his fight with Cotto, I think Pac wins and sets up one hell of a fight with Mayweather.
with such a great defense, why would mayweather jr. go toe to toe with anyone if he doesn't have to? in 40 fights he's lost maybe a handful of rounds and has never been seriously hurt. his defense and counterpunching skills are unique and vastly superior to other boxers' defense and style.
I don't think anyone can make him at least not for a full 12 rounds. If no one can make him why should he.
U got to realize something man... He was frankly untouchable at 130 and hes probably 2 times more untouchable now... Like every other fighter FLoyd is getting better and better.... Its just scary for some to accept
Most of the people on this board have never Boxed before, never been hit by a world class fighter, and until they do they will never ever understand.
I don't think so. Not even with calderon. It's like asking Pac to stay in the pocket then counter punch. Floyd style works. It's boring but still works so why risk it.
He juust went toe-toe against the 2nd best boxer in the world. has went toe-toe with Castillo and Corrales, what else do you want from the man
He has against certain opponents in the past. In the fights everyone wants to see him against in the future (Cotto, Pacquiao, Mosley), I don't think he will do much of that. He'll more than likely look to outbox them with his skills, speed, and smarts.
