Thought of it when I saw this video. Pac-man doesn't exactly shy away from action. If he doesn't stay strict to the gameplan and engages too much, could this cost or hurt him in a big way? Is this a possibility to happen in the fight?

Damn... wrong section. Someone move this to general, or classic can discuss it for now I guess.

I think the outcome of the fight could hinge on how much Pacquiao stands and exchanges with Cotto. If prolonged exchanges occur, Cotto's odds will improve greatly because he will be able to get to Pac's body. I like Pacquiao to stay with a gameplan of getting in and out, moving mostly towards his right, and attempting to make Cotto get into a pattern of having to reset and follow him. While Cotto is moving his feet, he is not the most adept at moving his hands. That's when Pac will try the straight left hand shots, and try to keep turning him.

    Pac by decision for me.

Cotto isn`t very mobile or quick on his feet and his handspeed is ordinary as well, however his punch placement and selection is top notch and he has good pop in both mitts as well. Freddie Roach is well aware of this and as a result I don`t think Pacquiao will engage Cotto for any prolonged exchanges in close, my guess is Roach is really going to emphasize to Manny to use his superior footspeed and dart in and out with fast combinations and look for openings to capitalize on.

This is Mannys fight to lose imo, I think he has all the tools needed to beat a Cotto who I believe lost something that night against Margo, he looked real sluggish in the Clottey fight and I don`t think it was only due to the cut he suffered early on, he simply didn`t look like the same fighter of old and my gut tells me he won`t ever again regain his old form.

I do believe Pac has the power and speed to really get to Cotto with some big shots and hurt him and eventually take him out, which I believe he will sometime after the 8th. However if Cotto does get to Pac with some solid body blows as the fight progresses and slows him down enough to be able to land more and more things could get very interesting.

Either way, should be a great night of boxing and thats all that counts in this day of **** and way overpriced PPVs.

Indeed, I also lean toward Pac by late stoppage or decision. I was wondering though, Pac has to refrain from getting too macho. It shouldn't be a problem, though. Roach has to keep reminding to stick to the gameplan.

Manny always listens attentively to what Roach tells him in the corner and this will serve him well here because Roach knows what needs to be done to get past Cotto. As long as Manny comes to fight in top shape and sticks to the gameplan laid out for him by Freddie he should win this, like I said this is his fight to lose as Cotto is a faded force imo.

I think Manny wins this convincingly, his speed will be the key, Cotto is too static,if he lands some bomb, Pac man won't be there for the next one. And,he hits hard enough to get the job done late on, imo.

That's a good post in several ways. I think that Cotto's footwork is a bit better than you give him credit for though, and his handspeed is good. I also can't get the picture of Pacquiao wincing against Marquez' body shots out of my head. It's understandable that people favour Pac, but Cotto is full-blown world class welter the likes of which Pacquiao hasn't faced before. He hits with a similar accuracy to Marquez, and harder to boot.

It's 50/50 IMO. Pac and Roach will know not to charge Cotto completely head on, but will Pacquiao be able to fight effectively on the back foot if Cotto is able to push him back?

This is why I believe this too be Pacquiao's most dangerous fight.

Cotto is going to be facing a fighter with much faster hands, and Cotto cannot allow Pacquiao to land too many big left hands. Cotto has been rocked by a southpaw's left on several occasions. It looks as though he adjusted his guard in between the Judah and Mosley fights, but Mosley is not a southpaw.

The key to this fight is Cotto's jab. Establishing the jab is sometimes necessary in defeating a faster fighter. Especially when the faster fighter is also smaller. Cotto can't let Pac move in and out, and side to side, as he pleases. If Cotto can land the jab, he can keep the fight at a range more to his favor. Cotto can then look to set up his combinations of his jab, and set up his attacks to the body. Pacquiao is very tough, but it may be physically impossible for him to take a lot of big shots from a fighter presumably this much larger.

If Pacquiao can stop Cotto from establishing his jab, most of the fight will already be won for him. Pacquiao is substantially quicker, and is used to facing faster opponents. Pac may not be able impose his style on Cotto to the effect he did De la Hoya, but it could end up looking similar.

I'm glad we're getting this fight.

It wouldnt be in Pacs best interest to engage a lot, and he should use his speed and movement, but he will be facing a guy who is very good at cutting off the ring, and very good at handleing guys with a lot of speed. Cotto makes up for his lack of speed with his excellent timing, and its just going to be a very interesting fight. Im not sold on Pac as a full blown welterweight, but if he wins this fight I will be.

Hatton managed to cut off the ring against against Malignaggi, who's a world class boxer and mover. Better then Cotto managed to, thats for sure.

See how successful Hatton was against Pacquaio? His lateral movement and ability to strike and get out of there is incredible. Pacquiao blitzed him, and whatever you think of Hatton's tactics he more then likely was forced into that brawling mode because he tasted Pacquiao's power.

I really don't give a **** that he's been moving up, his technique is what makes him devastating.

I truly think he's going to stop Cotto.
