No... (just in my opinion) This is how I see Canelos career going... Keeps feasting on overmatched opponents Loses first big fight Moves up in weight to 160 starts being in close, tough fights against contender level opp loses another big fight (probably doesnt deserve the fight in the first place) and then starts losing as much as he wins until he retires. Remains a fan fav for being exciting though.... Honestly, I really think this Canelo bubble is going to burst within the next 3 fights. I dont ever see him winning a big fight. That being said, I want to make it clear I am not saying this as a hater and I dont want this to be the case. I dont care whether he is or isnt a future great.... im just a boxing fan watching a fighter. I just dont see anything that will tells me hes going to be on that level in boxing. We will see. Either way, hes exciting and Im sure he has plenty of good fights in store for us, which is enough for me :good
actually kinda of underrated very few fighters fought the kind of dangerous opposition he did early in his career I mean undeafeated Maussa in his 18th I think fight, N'dou 2 fights later, Bailey after that a very dangerous puncher even still, Corley, Torres and so on that was like 25 or less fights in Cotto got matched extremely tough early and won then he went on and beat Judah and Mosley and such. Alvarez hasn't done **** in comparison.
If they build him carefully and allow him the opportunity to experience a little more, without the rush for the top he could be something special. At this point i don't see beating of the top 147 nor 154 !
Cotto fought a bunch of D, C, and B level fighters for his titles. He was badly hurt by Demarcus Corley too for all you haters questioning Canelo's chin... Let's not forget Cotto was also badly hurt by Torres. Canelo has been momentarily hurt by Cotto jr and took two monster shots from hard hitting Cintron, and barely flinched. Cotto's two best wins have been against a shot Margarito and way past primed Mosley. Cotto has always had whack ass defense, and look how far he made it. As far as the three division champ credit Cotto gets, I guarantee Canelo can kick Foreman type titlist at 154 and 160 easy. If they bring Canelo up the way they bring Cotto I. An see Canelo surpassing Cotto. Also people rag on Saul for the way he became a title holder, but look at the way Cotto became a champ in each weight class and then say it was better than the way Saul did with a straight face.
So just for future reference.... you think Canelo is going to be as succesful as Cotto? (or more) Meaning that you think by the time Canelo is towards the end of his career, his resume and losses will be on par with cottos? And someone can talk about how past it mosley was, or margarito, or how quintana, clottey and so on are D or C level fighters, but I wouldnt pick Canelo confidently over Clottey, Mosley, or Margarito today...... let alone the versions that cotto fought. we will see though. I think canelo will have worse losses and his wins wont compare when its all said and done. just imo though.
alvarez is only like 22 . the kid is guna b a beast. better then cotto. i would love to see cotto v canelo right now. its a top 3 fight that could b made behind the obvious and behind bute v ward
Bull ****ing ****. If he defended those vacant titles against the best then that means he would have fought the other champs in his divisions... But he didn't. He defended them against unproven foes. Against the Malignaggis and the Pintos, and the Corleys and the Judahs. Then he finally picks up another strap but this time against a titlist, and who is it? Yury ****ing Foreman!!
Margarito I and Clottey were supposed to be both Unification fights. They had to vacate in order to fight Cotto. you can criticize Cotto on anything but his resume is solid. Funny Yuri Foreman, Mayorga (yes even Mayorga people were saying he was wild enough and had the power to put Cotto out) and Margarito were all supposed to beat Cotto according to people here but since Cotto beat him they were all handpicked and bums.
Loses can be deceiving. If Canelo fights better opposition than Cotto he may have more losses. Why didn't Cotto fight a prime Cintron, Williams, Martinez, A fresher Mayorga, Baldomir, Mayweather, and now the top fighters? You wonder why he didn't unify? Arum. At 21 Alvarez is doing damn good. By 23 I expect him to show us his true potential. I expect Saul to be as good of not better than Cotto.
