i know safety is important in boxing, but with the benifit of slowmotion replay, dilks took one slap and some punches on the arms to get stopped, though i will say that maybe the ref was aware of the very aprehensive look dilks had, but i would dread to think that saturdays fight could be stopped over such a mild arm attack.:good
At the time I thought it was a premature stoppage. But Dilks didn't complain at all to the ref and looked quite glad to be out of there to b honest.
There's no way that should be allowed to happen Smith is the Champ and is fighting at home. A premature stoppage would be a disgrace.
I rewatched that fight the other day and to be honest it's worse looking back on second viewing. Tbh though Dilks seemed to bottle the job once he knew DeGale fancied the job and clumped him a couple times. No i doubt he will get that treatment, Smith's been given a lot more chances when others would of been stopped with those cuts he's had but being a Warren fighter he's had a bit of hometown loving and tbh that's not a bad thing because he's gone on to win the fights but i can see fighters out there fuming if they been stopped for far less worse cuts. No what you know it's who you know....
There are often soft stoppages when Warren's prospects are involved. Not unfair stoppages, just a little early and pre-emptive. I see a cuts stoppage after DeGale's slaps tear the scouser's soft skin apart in the early round. Smith could win this if he makes it ugly early and commits to the body. But he's not bothered with this in fights against less talented guys, why would he do it against James? Can't see it being a good fight.
If Smith gots the cuts that he got in the Dodson fight again against Degale do people think it would be stopped?
We just need someone to coach our referees in the art of stopping a fight correctly. It's not corruption or any other conspiracy theory, it's just being over cautious to the point where only two or three punches land and the ref starts waving his arms like a spastic. Question - how many KO losses would JMM have boxing over here? Just clone Kenny Bayless five times and have him reffing every fight in the UK
I think yes, i think Smith's rode his luck with the cuts and not getting stopped. As i said in previous post he's gone on to win the fights so you can't knock the lad but he's a very lucky boy considering many fighters get stopped for a lot less. I think soon as there's site of blood around eyes there will be doctor's called up and panic stations in Smith camp. I think he'd be allowed a round or two but then get waved off by ref. Plus once DeGale sees blood he will attack Smith and i just don't see Smith seeing DeGale's looping shots. He be at risk of a KO tbh.... Let's face it Smith is a bleeder and DeGale lands cuffing blows, this really is likely. I think if Smith's hurt in fight he will be given a bit of time but i think it be a typical ''should he of stepped in.....maybe he was right :think'' stoppage.
Maybe it's just that he just doesn't bother, he knows he can win anyway/complacency slipping in. Lots guy on here saying Degale does some of the things he does badly because he knows he can get away it against lesser opponents. Just to play devils advocate.
